We Have a Baby!

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Here is yesterdays 3 x 3. That is a square of shibori in the center. I love how the yellow blends with the background. I didn’t post a blog because we got news just before dinner that Paige Ada Congdon had arrived. This photo showed up on my iPhone signaling the event.

What is there about seeing your DNA in a newborn baby that is so exciting and wonderful. She looks so much like Mark and me. Jayme says she sees nothing of her side of the family. I am sure it will show up eventually.

Here she is with her adoring Daddy.

Jayme sent me this photo this morning.

I can’t wait to see her next week. I plan to do lots of cuddling.

I found it difficult to concentrate on much for the last couple of days while we waited for Paige. I did manage to get 3 quilts ready to pack up for a local guild show. I delivered them today.

I also set up and printed tickets for our Artists Among Us gala reception.

I have taken lots of walks with Scooter and taken some spring photos. Here is a photo of some trees in blossom on the Reed College lawn.

Here is today’s 3 x 3. I have not felt well this afternoon. I have a sore throat and feel achy. I probably have finally caught a cold. I made it through the winter and now when we are ready to take off on a trip, I get sick. I dragged myself downstairs to do the 3 x 3. The miracle of creativity – it made me feel better.

And so, I am going off to bed early and hope sleep will help me feel better.

Multi-tasking

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

I had one of those days with no immediate deadlines, but lots of things that need to get done before we leave town next week. So, I was doing many things at once. This is today’s felted 3 x 3 with a bit of embellishment.

I also worked on some quilts to submit for my guild’s show that is coming up and the quilts need to be turned in while I am gone. I want to submit one of my aspen quilts. I took it to my crit group last fall. The guest critiquer teaches art at Univ of Oregon. She suggested that I pump up the red in one of the branches of leaves to have more of a focal point. So, today, I took a big breath and went at the leaves with scarlet Dynaflow.

Here is a detail of the leaves:

It is a subtle difference, but I think it helps.

I have been doing SDA work and lots of stuff for our Artists Among Us exhibit coming up in May. It was a glorious sunny day. Scooter and I go in 3 miles of walking while Mr C was working in Corvallis. Tonight, we went our for a delicious dinner. It was a good day. And still, no baby!

I Can Do This

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

I was on the verge of a meltdown tonight.  I have a very full schedule for the next two days. An important Artists Among Us coordinators meeting. I had to put together a slide show from all of those who have expressed an interest. We will be doing the jurying tomorrow. There are documents to go to those who get in that have not been approved, and I am supposed to send an e-mail to those who get in by March 2nd. I am leaving Friday morning for an SDA symposium in Seattle.

I want so much to have undivided time to work on my neighborhood walk piece. I am behind on my timeline for that. I have the elements fused (see above) but no screenprinting has been done.

Add to the mix that I have to pick up M & M from school tomorrow and supervise homework, make dinner and get them to school with lunch on Thursday morning. Oh, and then I have a dental hygienist appointment sometime on Thursday -can’t remember when.

I got the slide show done and printed an excel file of all the entrants before dinner. After dinner, I thought I just want to curl up and watch junk tv. But, I went down to the studio and made a 3 x3, committed to the layout for the Mr C and Scooter piece and lightly fused it. Hung it up on the design wall. Took it down and made some adjustments. The printing and sewing will have to wait until next week.

I worked on some of the documents for AAU and printed out what I have done so far for my partners in crime to look at tomorrow. And…..sighed a sigh of relief. I can do this!!

Here is todays blue 3 x 3:

A Productive Day

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

I did it! I managed to make a 3 x  3 for every day of January. I am ready to move on to a new color. I have decided to do the primary colors first, and then the secondary. So will it be blue or yellow for February?

Here is today’s 3 X 3, made from scraps of vintage kimono fabrics.

I spent the morning getting a Constant Contact mailing out for Trinity Arts Call for Artists for our May fine art show and sale. I have received 5 entries so far.

After lunch, I went out to The Pine Needle Quilt shop in Lake Oswego to beef up my batiks for my online class/Twelve challenge piece.

Here are my piles by color and value:

I am very pleased with the range of values.

The light values are the hardes, but I am very pleased with these.

Tonight, I cranked out 2 Constant Contact e-mails for SDA reps. When I signed up for the Trinity Arts Constant Contact, I received a phone call from a CC coach. I laughed and told her, I was not new to CC as I do most of the e-mails for SDA. They are really a great company to work with. They have recently made some great changes in their system, making it really easy to edit and send.

Tomorrow, I have to put away a mess of fabric and get to work on assembling my work of art. Never a dull moment!

A Quickie

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

I was hoping for a day in my studio, but it did not happen. I am also behind in my online class homework. What did I do today? I spent most of it creating a banner for our Artists Among Us Constant Contact e-mail. Our graphics person on the committee is very demanding, but not able to do much on the computer so we have been e-mailing back and forth until I got this done the way he wants it. He is also going to be our featured artist so the artwork in the banner is his. This basic design will be used for all of our promotional material— postcards and posters.

Here it is. You can click on it to see it larger.

I feel like I am coming down with a cold — sore throat and headache. I am going to call it a day.
