Image Transfer with Citra-Solve

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Recently, I have noticed a lot of posting and chatting about image transfer with Citra-solve. Almost six years ago, Mr C and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. I cut up my wedding dress and made this quilt. The fabric was silk Peau de Soie and silk brocade. I printed photos on fabric, but for the other elements, I used Citra-solve.

I made copies of the wedding invitation, the marriage certificate and the article that was in our paper. It is important to use a copier with carbon based toner.

It was difficult to photograph this quilt. If you click on the photo, you can see a larger image. I took the newspaper story and some other elements and constructed the church in which we were married. I overlaid the invitation on to a photo of me in the dress.

Here is the marriage certificate transferred to silk.

For the quilting, I stitched around the flowers in the brocade. At the top of the quilt, I had photos of Steve and I as kids and I quilted in our names and the date.

It is funny to look back at something I made 6 years ago. I have grown so much as an artist since I made this, but it has great sentimental value.

Here is my Fiber Sketch for the day. It is titled Sun Worship.

I am so loving the weather we are having. I took two long walks with Scooter and with my other activities, I was able to rack up over 10,500 steps today. I was hoping to start a new project in my studio today, but I had a lot of SDA website work to do. Tomorrow, I have a follow-up visit with the ENT so that will blow most of the afternoon.

A Busy Week-end

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

We have had a plethora of sun. It is there when we wake up, and it doesn’t set until 9 pm. The temperatures have been mostly in the 70s — just perfect. For today’s sketch. I attempted a city sunset – where you get that rosy glow off in the distance.

We had such a good time with M & M on Friday. We all love Toy Story 3 and then we went out for sushi (after a side trip to REI to buy Grandma a new pair of Teva’s)

Here we are at the sushi bar.

I loved the soy sauce container.

Here is Mia enjoying her California roll.

On Saturday morning, the parents came to retrieve them and we all spent the morning tromping around the neighborhood giant garage sale. I bought a bunch of National Geographic for 10 cents each. Mia is always looking for something to read. I also bought a small indigo batik piece. I am not sure what it is. It has pockets. It could be an apron, but there are no ties. I will try to post a photo tomorrow.

Today, after church, I got a lot of work done in the garden. I planted some zinnias, marigolds, an eggplant and a couple of cucumbers. We also got the drip irrigation system going. Our raspberry plants are finally bearing fruit.

Can’t wait for breakfast tomorrow.

After the gardening, I de-cluttered the house. I knew I would be stalled tomorrow if I had to face a messy house. Now I am ready to face a busy week of appointments and time in the studio.

Hope you had a great week-end, too!

Six Aspens

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

This is a short and sweet post tonight. I am planning on doing another aspen piece. I still have lots painted bark fabric and the painted silk background that was done with the other background. I am thinking about how I can push myself with the tree composition. So, today;s sketch is a possibility, I think.

Today, I went to the salon to get my hair cut and colored. I wanted to go lighter so Kevin said he would have to remove the old color. He used something that was not bleach or peroxide and was non-toxic. It smelled rather vile, but it did the job. I thought, why can’t they come up with something like this for discharging fabric. Maybe I should go  back and buy some from him and try it on fabric.

It was another perfect day. I took an hour walk with Scooter this morning. It feels so good to be out and about in the sun.

Here is Scooter looking for the squirrel that lives in out yard and taunts him.

Tomorrow, M & M are coming to spend the day and night with us. I think we might go to see Toy Story 3,

Summer Dance

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Summer arrived in Portland today, a little late, but much appreciated. We had sun from all day. It actually reached 80° by this afternoon. The light and warmth gives me so much energy. I accomplished so much today. I did some more planting in my veggie garden. I took Scooter on two long walks. I got my fiber sketch done early today

This afternoon, we went to the farmer’s market.

Cherries and berries were in abundance.

I love the shapes of bread and pastries.

I bought two of those rhubarb/strawberry tarts in the upper right corner.

Tonight, I made a big dent in ironing my linen summer clothes. I love linen in the summer, but it is labor intensive. I also decided to do some beading on my twelve by twelve piece. It didn’t feel finished.

Tomorrow, I am getting my summer cut and color.

A Change of Pace

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

I saw this beautiful Clematis St. John’s Wort on our walk this morning. (Thank you, Terry for correctly identifying it.) It was sort of sunny and the temps got into the low 70s before the cloud cover came back tonight. I am so looking forward to one of the sunny days that lasts until 9 pm.

I decided that it was time to put away my winter layers and bring out my summer clothing. I emptied all my drawers and rearranged my closet, putting the wintry stuff in the guest room closet. I have a huge basket of summer stuff that needs pressing. I will work on that while I watch So You Think You Can Dance tomorrow night.

Here is my fiber sketch for today. It is a collage with some fabric scraps from my surface design bin.

I have been waiting until the evening to do these which I am finding difficult. I am going to try starting my day with a fiber sketch to see how that goes!
