Catch-up Day

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Sometimes, I like to challenge myself to make a composition in 5 minutes. I reach into my fused scraps, grab piece of fabric and just do it. I don’t want to over think it. So, feeling a bit worn out tonight, I did this quicky fiber sketch.

This morning, I overslept a bit and then the game was on because I had a guild committee meeting here at 10 am. I did a bunch of errands, three loads of laundry, packed up the t-shirts to send them to New York and then did the farmer’s market run.

I always feel exhausted around dinner time. Then, I head down to my office and studio and have a burst of energy and often get some of my best work done. Today, on Face Book, I posted: A woman’s work is never done…especially if she takes time out to make art. I find that on many days, I get caught up in the day to day stuff and the evenings are my only uninterrupted time to create.

I have been cutting leaves from the lutradur. I love the color variation and the texture of the medium.

I want to say how very much I have enjoyed reading every single comment that has been left. I really am overwhelmed. Tomorrow night, I will do the random number generator and post the winner.

This and That

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

I had a very eclectic day and one of the most fun things that I did was making this little felted composition. I used the painted organza trimmings left from the sunset piece with roving.

I also did some fabric painting out on the patio. It was so nice to work outside and not worry about a mess in the studio. I had to paint more red and black silk organza because the synthetic was not working for me. I also touched up the silk background that I have for making another aspen piece.

In the morning, Scooter and I took an hour walk. It was beautiful here today – got up to 81° and was delightful.

I got the oven going tonight and made a pizza margharita for dinner and a pan of apricot oatmeal bars for my guild board meeting tomorrow morning. Yummy!

Now, I need to put a warm compress on my eye with a stye. Is there no end to the annoyances in my life!!

Keeping Our Cool

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

It was supposed to get up to 100° by 5 pm tonight, but it only registered 94° on our outdoor thermometer on the deck. But it was definitely not a good day for outdoor activity. We keep the shades down and turn on fans, and it is tolerable. M & M are here and spending the night. We had dinner at Burgerville and enjoyed the air conditioning.

This morning, Reva and I drove to Beth’s for STASH and found out that Terry has the crud – lost her voice, etc. – and was not coming.  I always miss having Terry at our gatherings. Gale brought her sister, Judy, who is visiting from Las Vegas. It was nice to see her again. We shared some of our work and caught up on our stuff. We had lunch at a wonderful local Italian restaurant. I had a grilled eggplant sandwich on focaccia with pesto aioli. It was delish.

I had to get home to be there when Steph brought M & M to spend the night. I haven’t done much today. Too hot. I did the chilly fiber sketch. Oh, I had  a problem tonight when I was ironing my latest batch of organza pojagi pockets. They melted!! Shoot! I didn’t know that I had any synthetic organza in my stash. I think I can still use it, but  when I put it next to the silk, you can see the difference. Sooo, I might have to do some more painting.

I got the results of the CT Scan of my sinuses today. I have a clogged Sphenoid Sinus which is way back behind the eye. I have had this problem in the past, but it was treated with very strong antibiotics, but I don’t think it has ever been totally clear.

The ENT Doc is recommending surgery, but I will not meet with him until after the 15th because he is on vacation. Something daunting to think about.

Some Work and Some Play

Monday, June 7th, 2010

I spent the morning learning the Constant Contact e-mail system and how to import a mailing list for my SDA job. Not that difficult. Got an e-mail formatted and sent. I only had a couple of errors. I will do better next time.

I continued the reorganizing, sorting and cleaning of my studio. It is slow going because I keep getting distracted by things that I find. I also took photos of 3 small pieces and burned a CD to enter the Small Works show at the Main Street Gallery in Groton, NY. Got it mailed and only had to pay first class postage. Woo hoo! It would be neat if I could get a piece in that show because it will be happening when I am in NY this summer. Hope springs eternal.

Tonight, I spent some play time in the studio. I decided to do a monoprint on fabric for my fiber sketch today. I wondered if I could do an Aspen landscape. I painted on glass first.

I placed a piece of dupioni silk on the plate and brayered it.

I had  a couple of messes and finally got one worthy of the Sketchbook.

That first photo is the painted organza from yesterday. I wondered what would happen if I pleated it. I like the color play that happens with the layers.

Energy

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

I awoke to a bit of sunshine today. It energized me. It was not a lot of sun, but at least it didn’t rain until I was walking Scooter this afternoon at 4 pm. It is raining rather steadily now and will for the foreseeable future. Saturday is looking like it might be a respite.

My lettuce is growing like crazy. It loves this weather. My favorite way to have it is with fresh lemon juice, olive oil and a bit of goat cheese. Yummy!

I managed to get a little more organizing done in the studio. I think if I had a few days of warm, sunny days, I would get it done.

I am also working on a small piece for a juried show that is due in a week. I wanted to try to do something for the SAQA  “No Place to Call Home” show. I have a couple of ideas. The due date is June 20th. I would be pushing it to get something done, I think. However, the size requirements seem doable.

OK, the morning’s energy has dissipated. Time for bed.
