oldwomanandcomputerjoke

Argh! This crud virus won’t go away. I managed to slog my way through much of the computer data stuff for the SDA conference registrations. I finished the online credit card authorizations late today. I still have to update the SDA database. But that is not as time sensitive as getting the money!!

I pulled myself together so that we could go to the theatre tonight. We saw “Portland, the Musical” performed by the Sunnyside School third graders. Mia had several roles — narrator, suffragette and Irish dancer. She did this drawing of a Blue Heron which was on the cover of the program — another budding artist!!

The third graders of the Portland School District study Portland during the year. An incredibly sainted man, who happens to be a teacher’s spouse and a musician, has written this musical that traces important events from the Multnomah Indians to the flood of 1996. He goes to each school and plays the piano and directs the children. I learned a lot about the city tonight. Portland got its name by a flip of a coin. It was named after Portland, ME, it could have been Boston.

So that is all the excitement that I have to report. Tomorrow, I am going to the STASH meeting. We are going to plan our spring retreat  – yippee.

And, thank you so much for all the good thoughts and wishes. I just haven’t had time to answer e-mails or to post on blogs. Hope you all understand. You all rock!!

Ho, Ho, Ho

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

Hope your Christmas was as merry and happy as mine. We gathered for Christmas soup, cookies and gift opening. Steve and I attended Mid-night mass. It was so beautiful and enjoyable because the normal horde of folks did not brave the elements. Our Rector called us the die hards. I received some wonderful gifts which I will share over the next few days. We are about to head over to Steph’s for her wonderful homemade pecan rolls and other goodies and to see what Santa brought.

For now, here are a few pics from yesterday. You can see all of them on my Flickr Stream.

Wilfredo dressed for a walk with Lisa, Maggie and I.

We took a walk to the Rhodie Garden, but the gates were locked so we took photos through the fence.

Having fun at Christmas Eve supper.

Miles and the tree. He loves to check out the ornaments. He LOVED his gifts from us – lots of Lego stuff and a book of Lego constructions and a Klutz card castle kit.

The temps are up, the snow is melting, things are looking up! Hope you are having a great day with family and friends.

Not Much Quilting Done Today

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Here is the print I did today. For this one, I used the Golden white ground. I am really impressed with the quality of the photo on this media. This is a photo of Roman ruins at Bet Sha’an, one of the favorite that we visited.

I used some leftover lutrtradur that was only 9 inches wide and sliced the photo for printing. the resulting print is about 17 inches by 14 inches.

I spent the morning finishing my Christmas cards and got them in the mail. I spent some time printing another photo on Lutradur and then Steph called and asked if she could bring M & M over while she and Jack did some shopping. Of course! I did a quick Trader Joe’s run and spent the rest of the day doing what I love, hanging with the grands. We had cocoa and cookies. We lit the fire in the fireplace, played Christmas music and had a couple of games of Uno. Mia was absorbed with her new IPod – her birthday gift from her mom and dad. After Jack and Steph returned, I made burritos with left over pork loin.

Here is our portrait taken with the IBook photobooth.

We are expected to get another dousing of cold weather and snow for the next two days so I will be able to fit in some studio time. If the weather is ok, we may travel across the river and through the woods to Terry’s open house. That would be great!

Work Under Construction

Friday, November 28th, 2008

First, I want to let all my potential patrons know that this piece is available on the SAQA reverse auction site. Today the price is $750. The price goes down $100 a day until the last day, when the price is $75. This is the third and final week. There are lots of great pieces available.

We had a great meal yesterday. Miles discovered Pecan Pie and loved it. I had to send the leftovers home with him. He is so darn cute. In his first grade class, they can volunteer to be expert teachers about something. He has already done paper airplanes. He also wants to teach them about Greek Letters and Roman Numerals and how to draw paper airplanes which is apparently a lot different than making them. Mia is all about Christmas coming and wanted to make sure that I was getting a tree so that she can help me decorate it.

I fell asleep watching TV last night, but I feel renewed today. I weighed in at WW and did not gain too much.

I finished piecing the Jerusalem Cross quilt. I really like this. I like that it will be such a nice counterpoint to the more abstract work that I do. I am not sure how I will quilt it. Very simply, I think. It is about 51 inches square. I matched my points quite well.

I also started quilting the Dead Sea piece. I love how it is looking. I had purchased some gorgeous brown, white and aqua Superior thread at the quilt show in August, and it is perfect. I love the serendipity of that.

Tonight, we had leftovers. The turkey brined in apple cider was devine. So moist and flavorful. According to Mr C, it is the best ever. He says that every year!! But, it really was delish.

Living La Vita Lego

Monday, November 24th, 2008

This morning Mr C and I picked up a very excited Miles who had $11 bucks of his own money to spend and headed for the Lego Store.

It was all quite mind boggling. All those Star Wars sets. He looked and scrutinized and looked and read the boxes for about an  hour.

I amused myself taking photos:

My favorite bin of lime green Lego’s:

I finally told him that he had to choose one and if he got it home and didn’t like it, I would bring it back and exchange it.

On the way home, we had a rare sighting of Mt Hood in November.

Here is the happy boy running to share his swag with his mom and sister.

And here is the sweet girl who gets her turn next month:

I got some work done on the Dead Sea piece. I will share that tomorrow.
