Oh, Shoot!

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Today, my daughter, Steph, came by with her super duper camera to take some photos of my studio and me and also, how I prepare thermofax screens for the Twelve X Twelve book. She took a lot of photos of how I store stuff and other oddities in my studio. I have a big space, which is awkward for photographing, but it is very efficient as a work space. So, we decided to go with the quirky photos.

I made the print up there to demonstrate how the thermofax works. I made the screen from this photo that I took in Kauai. I loved the wispy look of these trees.

M & M did not have school today so they came with Steph. After we were done in the studio, we mixed up some homemade bubble mix and had fun in the front yard. Even Scooter got in on the action.

As you can see, it was a lovely day. There were delightful gusts of wind that blew the bubbles before the kids could. Lots of fun.

They love this fancy bubble maker that I bought at a craft show.

I love the colors in this Japanese Maple.

I finished up Entwined Roots tonight and sent a jpeg in for the SAQA auction. I can cross something else off my list.

Luggage for Traveling Quilts

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Have you ever sent a quilt off to a show, only to have it return home without the bag you sent it in. Or have you ever hung a show and tried to keep track of the packing materials for each quilt.

My art quilt group is getting ready to send out our 2010 show, Bird’s Eye View. Each quilt will be in a special cloth bag with a label attached to the bag that has a photo of the quilt and contact information. Each quilt will have a hanging rod and again, we are asking that those be labeled for easy identification.

Today, I made bags for mine. I sewed a Ziploc bag to the outside of the bag. I printed the label with the photo and my address and put it in the Ziploc bag. Using the ziploc bag allows the bag to be reused for another quilt. I roll each quilt around a foam swim tube cut to the size of the quilt and stash it in the bag with the hanging rod.

I finished the quilting on Mother Lode. I am quite happy with the result. I have to trim it to size and attaching facings to finish. I have to do some major housecleaning tomorrow as I have the jurying committee for the show coming on Sunday.

M & M are spending the night. It is their Dad’s birthday tomorrow and Steph is treating him to a nice dinner sans children. We will all celebrate tomorrow.

We took them out for fusion Asian food tonight.

How to Make a Snowman with a Romping Dog

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

M & M came over this morning while their parents were doing some errands. There was still enough snow for some play time. In fact, Mia announced when she arrived that we had not played in our snow, yet, because there were no foot prints.

First, Scooter had to taste test the snow.

Well, the yard looks played in now.

Still enough snow left to make a snow bunny.

Holidaze

Oh my goodness, she looks so grown up! It is boxing day and I thought I should post some Christmas eve photos. We went to Stephanie’s home and it was delightful. She made a delicious rustic shrimp soup with potatoes and Andouille sausage.

Steamed artichokes were enjoyed before the soup. One of Mia’s favorite foods.

The first photo is Mia in her new Jammies and strumming the guitar that we gave her along with 6 private lessons.

The floor under Steph’s tree was piled with gifts. Some of them were left to be opened on Christmas day.

Here is Miles in his new Jammies and the Walkie-Talkie we gave him. He brought it with him yesterday. We use it to send him on secret missions – keeps him busy!!

I finally got a photo of his two missing teeth.

A scene in Steph’s living room.

The goodies we enjoyed after dinner, provided by Mr C and I. The food pantry sold boxes of beautiful Holiday cookies as a fund raiser. I made fudge brownies and mini-cheesecakes. One of Steph’s friends gifted her with cashew brittle and nougat.

One of my favorite gifts is this painting of Maggie that Lisa did for us. This is from a photo when we still lived in North Carolina.

Yesterday, I made dinner for the family and we enjoyed playing some games in the afternoon. I neglected to take any photos. I hope you had a wonderful holiday with your loved ones.

Now, it is time to do some planning and list making for all that awaits me in the new year.

Recovering

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I had a couple of bad days. Sunday, during church, I had a major sinusitis induced vertigo attack. I am sure the warmth and candles and lack of oxygen made it worse. I managed to exit before I passed out and the EMTs were called which has happened more than once during a church service!!

I spent Sunday trying not to move too quickly and took my meds, and I felt better yesterday. My next case of angst involves the 12 X 12 book. I am writing about my chair piece which has two photos I took back in 2005 in Sonoma, CA. The originals are missing. In fact, a search of both of my computers shows photos from late 2005 missing in action. I looked on my external hard-drive back up and nothing is there. I have the photos on my Flickr site but they are low resolution and not ok for printing.

I e-mailed the gracious and talented Gloria Hansen about my problem. She asked me to send her the low res photo and she used a program that she has that ups the resolution. I am hoping they are suitable for the book. I e-mailed them to Lark, and they will let me know. So, I am recovering from these physical and mental problems and now I am enjoying the holidays.

The photo up there is St Nick who made his annual appearance at the cathedral on Sunday. (I recovered enough to get his photo.)

Today, we took Mia and Miles out to lunch and to do a little shopping at the mall. We ate lunch at the Macaroni Grill. Miles had a good time drawing on the paper table topper.

Mia enjoyed the puzzle book.

We had a good time shopping and Grandma was exhausted by the time we got home.

Tonight, Mr C and I had dinner of popcorn and diet Coke at the movie theater, watching Up in the Air, which we loved. This film is iconic for our times in the same way The Graduate was when it was made. George Clooney is wonderful, sweet, vulnerable and gorgeous. What can I say — I love the man.
