Mia is Ten!

Our little girl is growing up. I remember the day 10 years ago when she was born. I was there videotaping the event. Steph finally told me her name and I went home and knitted Miriam on the top of her Christmas stocking so that she would have it for her first Christmas a week later.

Today, she got her ears pierced and so she did all of these weird poses for me so that I could photograph her ears.

We went out for dinner at Papa Haydn which is renowned for their desserts. Mr C and I shared a very decadent pumpkin bread pudding.

Here is Steph photographing Mia and her cake, Buche de Noel.

It had a peppermint flavored white chocolate filling and was covered with frosted macaroons.

I am exhausted. I did not sleep well for a variety of reasons. I had to go to the lab early for routine blood work. Everything was just about perfect. I am doing well for an old lady. If I would lose 10-15 pounds, I would be perfect! Ha.

Enjoying the Season

I love making my own Christmas cards. Sometimes I do fabric. Sometimes, I create something with photos and print. This year, I am screen printing and embellishing.

First, I drew a wreath with an India ink pen.

I created a thermofax screen. I printed the wreath on cards. I printed a message and our names on the inside first.

The card at the top of this post has glitter balls. This one is foiled. I found that foiling on the paper was difficult so I switched to Elmer’s glue and glitter.

I printed some on silk which I may stitch to cards or use for postcards.

This past week-end, we had lots of festive activities. I finished decorating the tree and adding some other holiday touches to the house.

M & M and their parents came over for homemade pizza last night. Milo has two front teeth missing. I tried to get him to grin so that I could take a photo. I got this photo that does not show the missing teeth. He is so darned cute!

I hope you are enjoying your holidays, too!

Let Christmas Begin

I have been busy for the last couple of days with M & M, getting into the holiday mood. Yesterday, they had no school so Steph dropped them off early in the afternoon. We got tickets for the Holiday Laser Show at the OMSI planetarium. It was fun to listen to Christmas music and stare at the hokey graphics on the planetarium ceiling. We also spent some time in some of the exhibits. There is so much there for the kids to learn from experiments and exhibits like this one”

I think Mr C had as much fun as M & M.

We had to go home to pay some attention to Scooter, then it was off to Burgerville for supper. Back at home we broke out the Peppermint Ice Cream and chocolate sauce — a sure sign that the holidays have arrived. Next on the schedule was Bah Hum Duck, a Looney Tunes version of The Christmas Carol.

This morning, we mixed up a batch of Nigella Lawson’s edible gingerbread tree decorations. M & M had lots of fun cutting out and decorating the cookies.

Next, they implored me to get out the nativity sets and the shelf tree (Mia’s description of my wooden Swedish ornament holder.

Scooter was very intrigued with the Santa hat and kept jumping up and grabbing the white fluffy ball.

We arranged all of the nativities. Mia remembered where each of them is assembled. I was quite worn out when their Dad came to get them at noon.  After a rest, I went out to Fred Myer’s, a local grocery with lots of other stuff. I bought a new hat and gloves for the cold weather and a Christmas adornment for Scooter. The antlers light up and blink, but that was too much for him.

I have a very busy week ahead of me and I still want to remake my pink piece. I think I can pull it off. I may just do a pretty pink collage and take the easy way out.

Another Starbuck’s Meetup

delterry

Del Thomas is in Portland for a short visit and Terry and I met her at Starbucks. We talked and talked and talked. It was a great visit.

Otherwise, today has been a bust. I realized that I really have to redo my pink piece. It just isn’t conveying what  had in mind.  I don’t think it will take too much work. I will feel better about it.

Tomorrow, M & M have no school so Steph is dropping them off in the afternoon. We are taking them to the OMSI planetarium Holiday Laser show. They will spend the night as mom and dad are going to a party without them. If we have time, we might make some Christmas Cookie ornaments.

And now for something cute:

Art Every Day 20 and a Birthday

This is what the two choreographed collages looked like this morning after they were dried and ironed. The white paint almost disappeared and the black faded considerably. I worked on my pink piece for the Twelve X Twelve December challenge. I fine tuned the design that I will use. I think about the darn thing all the time, but this is good because I keep coming up with better ideas for the layout and embellishment. So I can’t really show you my art for the day.

We had a great time celebrating Milo’s birthday. We gave him a geocahce gps and several accessories. I think the family will have a good time going out hunting for the hidden caches.

Miles wanted to go to a sushi train restaurant. He likes to be able to see what he is going to eat. He ate 5 plates of California sushi and some chicken strips.

Here are some shots from the sushi restaurant.

They tally up the prices by counting the plates and colors.

Then we were off to the gelato store.

The birthday boy lost a front tooth today. He looks so cute, but would he smile for the camera, no!!

Books are like magnets for my grandchildren.

The gelato store makes donuts which looked ever so yummy, but I will be having my whole wheat English muffin for breakfast.

Happy birthday, little man.
