What a Great Week-end

Sunday, July 1st, 2012

I think that Miss Paige really enjoyed meeting all the Portland peeps. She was all smiles and giggles and regaled us with cooing and singing.

Here she is with Aunt Steph:

And she thought Uncle Jack was quite funny!

I got lots of hands on time with her and loved every minute.

I took them to the airport this morning and it seems so quiet around here. I probably won’t see her until November when I go down to SF to help take care of Lisa when she has foot surgery. She will have to stay in bed for two weeks, getting up only to go to the bathroom with help.

I did manage to get back to my studio to finish up the orange 3 x 3s.

(I had to do a sun because we need some!)

And, ta da, the color for July is Magenta (red/violet)

Sparks are Flying

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

I edited this and removed a lot of the sparks and started stitching. I found out that it is Google Chrome which caused the problem with uploading the photos. I switched to Firefox and no problem!

I am stitching the heck out of this because I have so many small pieces. Here is a detail.

I have to say that this piece is making me very happy as I feel I have gone back to what I love doing — making abstract quilts out of my art cloth.

I have had a very busy day. I did lots of laundry, got the guest room ready for my special company coming tomorrow, made a batch of berry freezer jam to use up some of the berries in the freezer from last summer, shopped at the Farmer’s Market and quilted!

I rented an infant car seat and a bouncy chair for Paige. Mr C and I successfully installed the seat in the car. I will be off to the airport at 8 in the morning. Soooo excited.

Tomorrow, my granddaughter leaves for a wilderness adventure with kids her age from all over the country. She will spend 2 weeks with other 6th graders surfing, rafting, climbing and hiking all around Oregon. She was given a scholarship for the program, and I am so proud of her. I know it will be an exciting time for her.

Here is today’s 3 X 3.

Light My Fire

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

I have worked all day on my fire piece using the  fabric I created in Kerr’s workshop. I have had lots of fun playing with design elements.

I placed the fabrics on a black background and they really popped so that was my starting point. (There is something weird going on with this photo. I have had trouble all night uploading photos so it is what it is.) Fixed this one.

I got the idea of over laying linear lines for an abstracted fire visual. I also added a few bits of fabric for sparks. Then, true to form, I over did it. So, tomorrow, I will do some editing on this. (And again, the photo is screwed up – argh!!) Still can’t get this one right

I give up. Here is today’s 3 x3 – wonder what it will look like?

Whoop de doo – no problems with this. Good night!

Moving On

Monday, June 25th, 2012

I finished my mythology piece, but, I can’t show it until the reveal on July 12. I can’t believe that I am done this early.

I want to make at least one more piece for High Fiber Diet’s elements show. I cut up the fabric that I made in Kerr’s class and started auditioning other fabrics to go with it. I think I have some excellent choices.

I was a little lazy today. Terry came over with her Rituals quilt, and we packed ours together to send to Southern California. I dropped them off at Fed Ex and picked up some groceries and didn’t get back down to the studio until after dinner. My bad.

Here is today’s orange 3 x 3.

Cloudy with a Touch of Warm Sunshine

Sunday, June 24th, 2012

It was a nice week-end. I felt much better. The rain stopped by 3 in the afternoon and the sun came out and so we were able to have appetizers and drinks on the deck last evening. Then we fit 12 people around the dining room table and had a great meal together.

I bought new napkins at Crate and Barrel that are really cool colors of the rainbow.

I have just about finished my mythology piece. I am channeling Jamie Fingal and Terry Grant and using only black thread for the quilting with batik fabrics.

And here is today’s 3 x 3.
