Stop Procrastinating

Monday, February 20th, 2012

Yesterday’s 3 x 3 is a piece of indigo with some rusted areas.

I am not being as productive as I want to be. I started a new regime today. I am hoping to get more work done in my studio so that I can keep up with my commitments. I had to do some neatening and cleaning to get ready to finish the Mr C and Scooter piece. Here is the background fabric that painted before I went to SF.

I need to do some more layers of painting and printing before I can collage the blended photos. I have some trees to make into thermofax screens then I can start printing.

For today’s 3 x 3, I decided to work with complements. This is blue silk background with orange circles, free motion quilted.

Lisa called tonight to tell me that she and Clay are meeting with a wedding planner on Tuesday to make plans for a spring 2013 wedding. Woo hoo! The venue will be the Marine Headlands, and you need to reserve it a year ahead.

Here is my boy, all curled up and sound asleep.

A Great Day

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

I took this photo of Lisa and Clay last week while in San Francisco. Today, Clay asked Lisa to marry her and she said, yes! Clay had confided in me when she was here for Christmas and I even helped her select the ring. I felt so honored to be her confidant. We are so happy to have Clay become a part of our family. I think the wedding won’t happen until 2013 and hopefully, by then, marriage between same sex couples will finally be legal.

Another fantastic thing happened for Lisa this week. The biannual invitational at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco opened and her piece sold on the first night – $2500!! So proud of her.

This morning, I had fun with our encaustic adventure at Trinity. It was a great group of students. Serena Barton, our teacher, said it was one of her best group of students. Here is some of the work that was done.

I did three pieces – two with textiles. This piece has a couple of strips of shibori indigo in it.

For this piece, I printed a photo of one of my aspen quilts on silk and encased it in wax. I overworked the piece trying to blend the edges. The photo was a rectangle and the board was square. I would like to try this again with better proportions.

This is the last piece I did — in about 10 minutes. It was fun to just go wild with the beeswax paints.

We all agreed that we want Serena to come back and for a full day.

Tonight, we went to the symphony which was being recorded for a cd. We were cautioned to be very quiet and it was hysterical to hear the coughing every time there was a break.

I bet you thought I didn’t have time to do a 3 x 3 today, but here it is . A quicky felted piece.

Blue Batik

Friday, February 17th, 2012

I have some nice blue batiks so the last tow 3 x 3s are showcasing the batiks.

Not much to report. I have been doing a lot of SDA work for the last couple of days. I made a couple of more photoshop blended photos. They are like potato chips — you can’t make just one.

I also prepared a thermofax screen of my two guys.

Tomorrow, I am taking another encaustic class. It has been a year since I took the class. I am planning to use more textiles, this time.

Look at this photo I took this morning. I am not sure if it is the last rose or the first rose.

Taking Care of Business

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Here is my blue 3 x 3 for today. Love doing the zigzag free motion quilting.

It was a day of getting stuff done. Shipped a quilt to Seattle for the regional SDA show. Sent the scarf to Janet. Did a big Constant Contact mailing for SDA. Worked on the SDA website. Missed a local SAQA meeting – oops!

I also worked on some photoshop images for a project which is currently on the front burner. The theme involves walking around the neighborhood with Scooter and Mr C. Here is what I have so far.

So that is the news from here.

Happy Heart Day

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

I made this for Mr C and also, his favorite meal — grilled filet mignon, baked potato and broccoli rabe.

And here is my valentine themed 3 x 3 which is felted.

I thought I would continue with some photos from the San Francisco trip. On Friday afternoon, we took Mia to two of the places on her list — Japan Town and the Golden Gate bridge. She says Japan Town was the highlight of her visit.

After she had her fill of  Anime and Manga, we drove to the Bay to see the Golden Gate Bridge from Fort Point.

An iconic view of the bridge in fog.

Saturday was the baby shower and we all pitched in to help.

Mark has done a nice job in the back yard of their flat. This is an old laundry sink that he turned into a water garden with a fountain on one side and veggies growing in the other side.

Mark and Jayme at the shower.

Steph made them one of her bunnies.

My great nieces who live in California were anxious to help with the gifts.

This baby girl will be the best dressed girl in town. They received so many wonderful gifts. The food was great and a fun time was had by all.

On Sunday afternoon, we took Mia to the MOMA, the other must do thing on her list. This is her in a sculpture on the roof garden.
