This looks a bit wonky! And it is a very dark blue-green. And the last of the blue-greens. Here is the batch.

September will be red-orange. I went searching for fabrics and didn’t find very much so this could be challenging.

I also got some work done on my kelp blocks for the water piece I am working on.

It was such a beautiful day here in Portland. I love the lingering of summer in September. This morning, Mr C and I attended a memorial service for the husband of a friend.  It was a nice service with a lovely reception. Nice to see many friends. At my age going to one of these gets you thinking!

Can’t believe that it is Labor Day week-end. Hope to have a BBQ with the family and go to the Art in the Pearl. We were married on labor day week-end, but our anniversary isn’t until Wednesday.

Hope you have a great week-end.

Feelin’ Groovy

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

I had a great day. We had a STASH gathering at Reva’s home, just up the hill from me. Mr C went to Corvallis today so I got to give Scooter his morning walk and then I took him to the groomer’s so that he will be in good shape to go to the Canine Resort next week. When his hair is longer he comes back all matted and then the groomer is not very happy with us.

Anyway, Reva made us a fantastic lunch. Beth gave us some gifts found on her travels to Finland and Russia, and she regaled us with wonderful stories of her trip.

I was feeling happy tonight because all of my children were together in San Francisco for the exhibition of art work done by Mia and her classmates at the California Academy of Art Young Artist Program. I wish I could have been with them.

Yesterday, I started planning my next quilt. I am making a piece for the PAQASouth’s Water exhibit. It will involve abstracted kelp. Here are a couple of ideas I have for blocks.

I think it will be another fun piece to create.

I showed you the Duffy boat postcard last week. I also made one for Del Thomas. We call her our angel for sponsoring our Twelve by Twelve exhibit at the IQF shows. She laughs that off. So, here is the card I made for  her. It finally got there. She says they were probably passing it around the post office for a couple of days.

Of course, she does not have a gold halo – she has a gold hat!

I am so pleased that I have been able to keep up with my 3 x 3s this month. Here is today’s.

Line Dancing Done

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

I got this sandwiched and finished quilting it last night. I have named it Line Dancing or maybe just Line Dance. It was fun and I am thinking of doing a series of this motif.

Here is a detail – I did a zigzag edge using the variegated thread I used for the quilting.

I also finished writing my article about the two aspen quilts I made. I am going to let it sit for a bit and then read it with fresh eyes and brain, later.

I am feeling pretty good about my work ethic right now. I seem to  have good energy and am able to keep up with the work I need to get done so that I can take a couple of weeks off, soon.

Here is yesterday’s 3 x3 and today’s.

Dye Fest Results

Sunday, August 5th, 2012

I had mixed results with my dyeing. But, dyeing is never  that bad because you can over-dye, print and discharge. The piece above was done my squirting dye. I was hoping for some watery colors. I like this cobalt blue piece.

I rejuvenated a stained white t-shirt.

These two pieces are really wow! They are silk organza. I poured 2 or 3 different dyes into the baggie.

The chartreuse came out nicely.

I love, love this cheddar color.

Here is a nice golden yellow. I really needed these colors in my stash.

Here is my china red piece, followed by a reddish orange piece.

And these are just a melange of dyes.

This one was all the left over dyes.

That bit of blue/turquoise was a drip, but it is kind of cool.

I found a box big enough for the 9 quilts I have to ship to Art Quilting Studio; it is used for shipping golf bags. We need to cut it down a bit. I have them ready to go except for fixing the box.

I started quilting the Rhythm and Hues piece.

I think the variegated thread adds to the rhythm.

Here is today’s 3 x 3.

I am totally whooped. It has been a busy week-end.

Hot Time in PDX

Saturday, August 4th, 2012

It is over 100° in Portland for the first time since July 2009. I decided it was a good day to dye. I need some red and red oranges and orange for a project I have in mind.

I mixed the dyes in my dye kitchen but did all the other work out on my studio patio.

Here are some of my fabrics batching in baggies in the sun.

I also did some “tray dyeing”. Actually, I just laid the fabric on plastic on my table, squirted dye and then added another layer of plastic and fabric and some more dye.

I did some cool colors, too.

This is chartreuse, turquoise and cobalt blue. I grabbed a long sleeved white tea shirt and squirted it with these dyes, too.

I got this quilt fused together. I really like it. I have it sandwiched and it is waiting to tell me how to quilt it.

Here is today’s 3 x 3, turquoise fabric with metallic paint and zigzag quilted.
