Today was Tuesday

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

Some days, I just can’t think of a catchy title for my blog!! This is today’s 3 x 3, stitched while I was at a High Fiber Diet meeting. I hadn’t been to a meeting since October, I think. It was fun catching up with every one. Two of our members did a very informative talk on value with great visuals.

I painted the background for the neighborhood walk quilt.  Fortunately, I have two backgrounds because I think I messed up the first one. I hung them outside to dry and then noticed it was raining. I think I am on the right track because there will be more layers. It may be that the first failure will work best.

I made some more thermofax screens. I like these twiggy trees.

This gnarly old tree is probably too dark. I think I need to lighten up the copy and try again. We have lots of trees like this in our neighborhood.

Ignore those blobs on the right – this is my test fabric with other images.

Tomorrow, I am going to work on printing out my blended photos on my large Epson printer.

Stop Procrastinating

Yesterday’s 3 x 3 is a piece of indigo with some rusted areas.

I am not being as productive as I want to be. I started a new regime today. I am hoping to get more work done in my studio so that I can keep up with my commitments. I had to do some neatening and cleaning to get ready to finish the Mr C and Scooter piece. Here is the background fabric that painted before I went to SF.

I need to do some more layers of painting and printing before I can collage the blended photos. I have some trees to make into thermofax screens then I can start printing.

For today’s 3 x 3, I decided to work with complements. This is blue silk background with orange circles, free motion quilted.

Lisa called tonight to tell me that she and Clay are meeting with a wedding planner on Tuesday to make plans for a spring 2013 wedding. Woo hoo! The venue will be the Marine Headlands, and you need to reserve it a year ahead.

Here is my boy, all curled up and sound asleep.

I had such a busy day! I took the easy way out with this 3 x 3!!

We had a great time at STASH today. I enjoyed seeing all the new decorating that Gale has done to her home. It really looks fantastic. We shared show and tell, had a guest hang out with us, planned our spring retreat and ate a fantastic lunch, prepared by Gale.

Stuffed peppers:

And a wonderful salad with gorgonzola and hazelnuts.

When I got home, I was full of vim and vigor so I changed my clothes and headed for the studio and tore off two pieces of 28 inch by 65 inch fabric – one is pfd cotton and the other is unbleached muslin. And. I grabbed some brushes, a bowl of water and several colors of Dynaflow paint. I layered the fabric and spritzed it with water and had at it.

I want an abstract background of colors of nature. I will be screenprinting some images and adding some large photos. I am looking forward to working on this when I get back from SF.

I am all packed and ready to go. Out flight is at 8 am so I have to get up at the crack of dawn, pick up Steph and Mia and off to the airport.

Here is a photo of my boy that I took this afternoon. He looks so sleek and trim with his haircut!

Happy, Happy!

I almost missed my 7th Blogiversary which was the 3rd of February. Seven years is a lot of blabbing and creating and making new friends. To celebrate, I have a gift for one of you. Just leave me a comment. I will do a random drawing and someone will receive this hand dyed silk scarf with a subtle shibori design.

It was a busy week-end. On Friday night, we went to the opening of Lisa’s show with her friend Trish Grantham — Wild at Heart. She sold a piece – always a good thing. On Saturday, she hunkered down and did many  more illustrations for the cookbook. On Saturday night, she, Steph and I put on a delicious meal for vegans and omnivores. Trish, who is a vegan, joined us. It was a fund evening.

Lisa left this morning and after church, I worked on my desktop Mac which had a disk problem  — I couldn’t open any files in Word or Photoshop – eek! I was able to repair it and everything is working again. So, I didn’t get much else done today.

Up above is yesterday’s 3 X 3 from silk scraps. Today’s is one of the stencil prints that I did with white paint on hand-dyed cotton.

The Twelves hatched a plan to gift Del Thomas with a 12 X 12 quilt from each of us with nature as the theme. We have kept them under wraps until now. Del was honored to have a gallery in the Visions Art Museum named after her. For the unveiling, they are displaying 40 of the 12 X 12 quilts that she has acquired. Some of ours are amongst those on display. I have previously posted my quilt, but did not say what it was for. Here it is, again, California Poppies. I am thrilled to have it on display.

Don’t forget to leave a comment if you would like to have a chance to receive the scarf!

Sunshine on a Cloudy Day

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

I finished the binding on Gwen’s quilt. I will miss it when I send it off tomorrow. I have enjoyed the sunniness of this as I worked on it. Here is a detail with one of the silly suns that I quilted.

I am so late in getting packages sent. Lisa arrives tomorrow and I hope to get every thing packed up and in the mail and then enjoy the rest of the week with family fun.

Yesterday was Mia’s 12th birthday. I can’t believe that she is a tween, now.

We went out for sushi and then back to Steph’s for cake. Here is Mia blowing out the candles on the ice cream cake.

And here is Miles, enjoying the whole event.

Trinity Cathedral has a pretty big and active outreach program, providing meals to the homeless and low income folks around the church. Each year, they make fancy cookies, box them up and sell them to help fund their work. We bought 3 boxes, one for us, one for our neighbors and one for M & M’s family. Don’t they look tasty?
