Ho, Ho, Ho

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

Hope your Christmas was as merry and happy as mine. We gathered for Christmas soup, cookies and gift opening. Steve and I attended Mid-night mass. It was so beautiful and enjoyable because the normal horde of folks did not brave the elements. Our Rector called us the die hards. I received some wonderful gifts which I will share over the next few days. We are about to head over to Steph’s for her wonderful homemade pecan rolls and other goodies and to see what Santa brought.

For now, here are a few pics from yesterday. You can see all of them on my Flickr Stream.

Wilfredo dressed for a walk with Lisa, Maggie and I.

We took a walk to the Rhodie Garden, but the gates were locked so we took photos through the fence.

Miles and the tree. He loves to check out the ornaments. He LOVED his gifts from us – lots of Lego stuff and a book of Lego constructions and a Klutz card castle kit.

The temps are up, the snow is melting, things are looking up! Hope you are having a great day with family and friends.

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

I couldn’t post last night. We lost 2 of our Comcast services – phone and internet. We received intermittent e-mail and the tv worked. I wanted to show you this. Lisa and Wilfedo arrived!!

We all look a little weary, but happy to be together. Yesterday, I cleaned up the studio and office and put aside my life as an artist for a couple of days (my brain has not shut down, however) so that  I can enjoy the holidays with the family.

It is going to be difficult. Most of my internet shopping has not arrived. We made our way downtown yesterday. Mr C dropped me off at Pioneer Square to do some shopping for a couple of hours while he opened the pantry at Trinity which has been open only one other day in the past 10. In the afternoon, we did some grocery shopping with tons of other folks. It was grueling. Steph and family will not be able to come over here unless Mr C goes to pick them up and takes them home. You can not drive on the streets here without 4 wheel drive and chains!! Most churches are cancelling their Christmas Eve services. I think Trinity is going on as scheduled, but as of yesterday, the parking lot was knee deep in snow.

And guess what? It is snowing again. Here are the views, taken a few moments ago from the dining room.

I just love this creche that the Uber Talented Kristin made for me last year.

So now I am going to finish my coffee, bake some cookies and think positively. We will find a way to gather for a family Christmas celebration.

I am wishing all of you a wonderful time, celebrating whatever holiday is in your plans – Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Christmas. You know what? I’ve got HOPE!

WordPress is not cooperating tonight. I can’t load photos. This is very unusal. I can’t remember having a problem with WP.

M & M came to help decorate the tree. There was pizza, Uno and lots of fun. You will just have to imagine it!!

We are supposed to get snow tomorrow. It is also going to be in the 20s for most of the week and then warm up to the 30s for the next week. I am not expecting to enjoy myself in the great outdoors. I will just stay hunkered down in the studio. Thar reminds me, I got the wise men done today. It is sort of like dressing paper dolls – fun to go through my fabric and find the right outfits.

Hopefully I will be back with photos tomorrow. I have sent WP an alert.

I have nothing much to share, but I saw this on Christine Thresh’s Blog. But first, I knew it, I didn’t hear a word about tracking numbers for the fabric. I cannot believe the customer service!!

Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Egg Nog ( too bad it has all those calories)

Does Santa wrap presents or set them under the tree? He puts them under the tree.
Colored lights on tree or white? We switched to color lights this year – seemed more mid-century
When do you put your decorations up? Sometime before Christmas Day.

What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Beef Tenderloin Roast

Favorite Holiday memory as a child: Taking the sled out to the woods on our farm to cut down a tree.

When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I was the oldest of 5 children, I figured it out when I was about 8 and then I got to help play Santa.

Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? All gifts are opened Christmas eve. Stockings are found on Christmas morning.

How do you decorate your Christmas tree? I have a huge variety of eclectic ornaments collected over the years. I do not like theme trees.

Snow! Love it or Dread it? We don’t get much in Portland, but i dread it.
Can you ice skate? I used to ice skate when I was a kid.
Do you remember your favorite gift? My first camera

What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Being with family.
What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Christmas cookies.
What is your favorite tradition? Soup and little sandwiches for Christmas eve.

Which do you prefer, Giving or Receiving? I love to give.
What is your favorite Christmas Song? Silent Night or maybe I’ll Be Home for Christmas or Silver Bells or the Hallelujah Chorus – I love music.
Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? Yum!

Ever recycled a Christmas present? I don’t think so.

I am working on a piece that is going to be great when I figure out how to do some of the elements. So far, I have tried two things that were not quite successful. Number 3 will be a charm, I am sure.

Giving Thanks

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

The table is set. Pumpkin and pecan pies are baked. One turkey is roasted and has gone to Trinity’s Thanksgiving feast for the community along with Mr C who is helping to prepare the meal. Our turkey is soaking in an apple cider brine, (thanks for the recipe Marie!) and will go in the oven soon. The Portland family will arrive this afternoon, and Steph and I will cook the sides and stuffing.

I am thankful for the creative life I have been given. I am thankful for my loving family and that we are all spending the day with loved ones even though we can not all be together.

I am thankful and hopeful now that Barack Obama has been elected our President.

I am thankful for all of you who check into my blog now and then to share my crazy musings.

Oh, and I am thankful that Mr C has cleaned up the drywall mess in my studio and office and put his work on hold until January. My stress level went way down and I slept like a baby last night.
