Holiday Meme

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I have nothing much to share, but I saw this on Christine Thresh’s Blog. But first, I knew it, I didn’t hear a word about tracking numbers for the fabric. I cannot believe the customer service!!

Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Egg Nog ( too bad it has all those calories)

Does Santa wrap presents or set them under the tree? He puts them under the tree.
Colored lights on tree or white? We switched to color lights this year – seemed more mid-century
When do you put your decorations up? Sometime before Christmas Day.

What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Beef Tenderloin Roast

Favorite Holiday memory as a child: Taking the sled out to the woods on our farm to cut down a tree.

When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I was the oldest of 5 children, I figured it out when I was about 8 and then I got to help play Santa.

Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? All gifts are opened Christmas eve. Stockings are found on Christmas morning.

How do you decorate your Christmas tree? I have a huge variety of eclectic ornaments collected over the years. I do not like theme trees.

Snow! Love it or Dread it? We don’t get much in Portland, but i dread it.
Can you ice skate? I used to ice skate when I was a kid.
Do you remember your favorite gift? My first camera

What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Being with family.
What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Christmas cookies.
What is your favorite tradition? Soup and little sandwiches for Christmas eve.

Which do you prefer, Giving or Receiving? I love to give.
What is your favorite Christmas Song? Silent Night or maybe I’ll Be Home for Christmas or Silver Bells or the Hallelujah Chorus – I love music.
Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? Yum!

Ever recycled a Christmas present? I don’t think so.

I am working on a piece that is going to be great when I figure out how to do some of the elements. So far, I have tried two things that were not quite successful. Number 3 will be a charm, I am sure.

Sew Peaceful

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

I am so stressed by the construction that Mr C is doing down here in my space. Don’t get me wrong, I think what he is doing is great, but I sure wish he had waited until I had all this work done for my January show. I still can’t get to my copier and thermofax so all the collage pieces that I want to do with images from the ruins and the security wall have been put on hold.

I can’t use my computer when he is sanding dry wall so I run upstairs and then I get distracted and don’t get back to the studio.I think that tomorrow, I am going to lay down the law and kick him out until next year.

Tonight, I needed something that made me feel I was accomplishing something and was sort of mindless and peaceful so I worked on the batik Jerusalem cross. I have each of the rows in neat piles with the row number.

Then, I set about strip piecing.

I got all the rows stitched in one direction. Now, I just need to press the seams and stitch the other direction.

I also finished fusing the Dead Sea piece. It is sandwiched and ready to quilt. See that green line running through it? That makes it eligible to enter in the HIgh fiber Diet Line Dancing show.

I was tagged by Natalya to list 7 things  you might not know about me. I’ve done this before, but I will try for 7 more.

  1. I played the clarinet in band and orchestra.
  2. I have never ridden on a roller coaster, and I never will.
  3. I did not get my driver’s license until I was 20.
  4. I once worked in the boy’s department of a store at Christmas to earn the money to  buy a floor loom.
  5. One of my front teeth was broken when an enamel pitcher fell off a shelf at summer camp.
  6. I don’t act my age!
  7. I need to have the radio or tv on when I am working. It annoys Mr C!!

I have to get up early and pick up my organic, free range turkey. Today, I went to the Holiday Farmer’s market and stocked up on some great veggies. Steph and I are coordinating the cooking.

Seven Things

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Terry tagged me to write seven random things about myself that you don’t already know. This is what she said: “I’m sure there must be at least seven things we don’t all know yet.” Am I that transparent?

  1. I was born at home six months after my parents were married. I found this out when I was 9 or 10 years old and found the marriage certificate and did the math.
  2. I was valedictorian of my class and I still have the notes for my speech which was about continuing learning after high school, even if you don’t have the opportunity to go to college.
  3. I have held a job or been a working stay-at-home-mom since I was 15. I lived with our high school music teacher and his wife who taught piano after school. I baby sat and cooked dinner. I earned $5.00 a week plus room and board. In college, I waited tables in the dorm and later worked in the cafeteria in the Home Ec college. One of our frequent diners and a really sweet guy, was the famous physicist, Hans Bethe.
  4. I played first clarinet in the band and orchestra. I sang in two choruses and the church choir.
  5. I was a cheerleader. Which one am?cheerleader.jpg
  6. Between my sophomore and junior years in college, I was Miss Cincinnatus and runner-up for Miss Cortland County. Here I am in the Fourth of July parade in my hometown. My mother was furious with me for cutting off my hair a la Audrey Hepburn! misscincinnatus.jpg
  7. I hardly ever remember my dreams, but when I do they are so vivid I never forget them.

Now, I have to tag 7 people. Here I go, hope you have not already been tagged. Kristin, Deborah, Judy, Debra, Deb R, Dee, and Artful Quilter’s List Mom, Diane.

I spent yesterday in bed with an elevated temperature and general malaise. I am trying to get back to normal today. Everything is a mess, the weather is gorgeous and the dog beckons.
