Sleep Deprived

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

I was up at 4 and at the Quilt Show by 5. Our segment didn’t happen until 6:45 so we had a lot of waiting to do!

Here is Drew doing a promo with a long arm dealer.

Here he is with one of the show organizers, Geri Grasvik, and the best of show quilt. One of those Swarovski crystal studded quilts – this one was from Germany.

Here is a link to a video of Terry and I doing our schtick. Enjoy! Our time was cut short so our scripted plan fell apart, but Drew is good at punting and just rolled with it.

I went back out to the show for a bit after lunch and took some photos. You can see some of the Twelve exhibit on the Twelve blog. I came home and slept for two hours so that I could stay awake to watch Project Runway.

Here are two of my quilts in the show.

The lighting on Forest was really harsh as it was hung up quite high.

Here are some quilts that I liked. I put the label for each one underneath.

I was so excited to see this Painted Hills quilt!!

Trisha uses metal in her quilts.

I just love this quilt by my friend Suzy. Many people have chickens in their backyards in Portland – you can have up to 3, but no roosters.

I really love Bonnie’s quilts. I use a lot of her handdyes.

Not much else to say tonight. I am too tired.

Thursday This and That

Thursday, August 30th, 2012

Whew! I’m glad that is over! The RNC Convention that is. To keep my blood pressure stable, I have kept from watching it and only followed live blogging which adds levity to the proceedings.

My quilts arrived home from Southern California yesterday so today, I had to drive to Woodburn to return the two elements quilts as the show is going to make it’s debut next week. It is an hour each way, but it was a pretty day for a drive and I took the back roads rather than the interstate.

I wanted to show you the beautiful etching that I bought in Bodega at one of the galleries. The gallery reps the prints of Stephen McMillan. I was in love with all of his work, especially the larger etchings of the California landscape. Here is a link to his gallery. I bought a small print of trees that I now need to get framed.

When I got home from our trip, I found this beautiful fiber postcard in the mail from my friend, Connie Rose.

This afternoon, I got caught up on my 3 x 3’s. It is almost time to work with another color.

I am hoping to get to work on the water quilt tomorrow. I am attending a memorial service for the husband of a friend in the morning. I can’t believe that it is the end of August and the end of the week. Time goes by too fast for me.

Halfway Home

Monday, August 27th, 2012

We have left the California Coast and are in Ashland, OR, on the way home. I am ready for some time at home and in my studio.

We had a great time in California — hanging with the family. I got to see Paige, Mark and Jayme for an all too short time on Saturday. On Sunday, Lisa and Clay came by and it was great to see them.

On Friday, I spent some wonderful time with my friends that I used to hang out with when I lived in Santa Rosa. We had lunch and lots of talking at Janet’s home. She is 88 and an unbelievably energetic and happy woman.

Here she is, with my friend, Pam, in the background.

And here are Pat and Diane. Pat, Diane, Janet and Rita and I were the gang of five. We used to have so much fun together. They have added some new people to the group since I left.

On Friday night, the family went out to a great restaurant in Valley Ford which specializes in oysters. It was fun.

Saturday, was the birthday dinner which was catered. Here is the table with wine ready for guests.

Here is the caterer describing the menu.

Mark, Jayme and Paige came up for the afternoon and evening. Here is Paige with her second cousins.

Here is the birthday boy with his two grandchildren and the birthday cupcakes.

I brought Paige the Steiff bear that Mark had when he was a baby.

I also bought her this adorable chullo – a Peruvian hat!

On Saturday, the fog went away and we had a beautiful sunny day. It was perfect for a barbecue and fun on the beach.

Here are the rest of my 3 x 3’s for the last few days.

Feelin’ Groovy

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

I had a great day. We had a STASH gathering at Reva’s home, just up the hill from me. Mr C went to Corvallis today so I got to give Scooter his morning walk and then I took him to the groomer’s so that he will be in good shape to go to the Canine Resort next week. When his hair is longer he comes back all matted and then the groomer is not very happy with us.

Anyway, Reva made us a fantastic lunch. Beth gave us some gifts found on her travels to Finland and Russia, and she regaled us with wonderful stories of her trip.

I was feeling happy tonight because all of my children were together in San Francisco for the exhibition of art work done by Mia and her classmates at the California Academy of Art Young Artist Program. I wish I could have been with them.

Yesterday, I started planning my next quilt. I am making a piece for the PAQASouth’s Water exhibit. It will involve abstracted kelp. Here are a couple of ideas I have for blocks.

I think it will be another fun piece to create.

I showed you the Duffy boat postcard last week. I also made one for Del Thomas. We call her our angel for sponsoring our Twelve by Twelve exhibit at the IQF shows. She laughs that off. So, here is the card I made for  her. It finally got there. She says they were probably passing it around the post office for a couple of days.

Of course, she does not have a gold halo – she has a gold hat!

I am so pleased that I have been able to keep up with my 3 x 3s this month. Here is today’s.

Home again, Home again!

Sunday, July 29th, 2012

I am home from my whirlwind trip to IQF Long Beach. It was such fun, especially after Karen and Terry arrived on Friday to keep me company. We were so excited to hear the wonderful comments about our Twelve by Twelve exhibit. I loved hanging out there, listening to the comments. Sometimes I would introduce myself and then I would be held captive to answer questions!!

Here is a photo of the three of us with Del, taken on Friday. Del was so thrilled with the reception the exhibit received. I am so happy we did her proud.

On Friday night, Del and her friends, Sherry and Jim who live on the water in Long Beach, treated us to a Duffy boat ride and dinner at the Long Beach Yacht Club. Here is the boat. It is electric and very comfy.

Here are some of the sights seen from the boat. A putt putt boat with a mutt.

And a person powered Gondola:

It was high tide so we often had to turn around because we could not get under a bridge. We enjoyed navigating the canals of Naples and looking at all the beautiful homes.

Yesterday before I left, I saw this sight out my window:

It was a canopy for an Indian wedding. When I was waiting in the lobby, I saw drool worthy Indian saris on beautiful women. The men were wearing some cool outfits, too.

I arrived home last evening and Steph and Jack and Miles picked me up and we stopped for dinner at one of Miles’ favorite restaurants. Steve was at an anniversary party for friends that I had to miss because I got in too late and Mia is in San Francisco with Lisa and Clay. She will be attending the Young Artists Program at California College of Art for the next two weeks. She is having quite the summer.

Today, I spent some quality time with Mr C and Scooter who seemed to have missed me!!

I was excited to find this fabric from Frieda Anderson when I got home. I am going to use it for a piece for our Rhythm and Hues show.

I am only one day behind with my 3 x 3s. Here are two more.
