Making Progress

Monday, February 27th, 2012

I can’t believe that I am coming to the end of the blue month. Only two more days. I have to round up all my yellow fabric. I have a feeling that yellow is going to be very challenging.

After a morning with the laptop formatting and sending Constant Contact e-mails, I got to the studio this afternoon. I think I fixed the transition from spring to summer.

I printed all of the organza trees.

And fused and trimmed them.

Tomorrow, I will get every thing fused, do some screen printing and hopefully, I can start stitching on Thursday. Wednesday is a busy day with meetings, picking up M & M and having them stay over night. Steph is taking Jack on a little overnight to Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood for his birthday, which isn’t until March, but we had to coordinate my schedule and theirs so that the kidlets could stay with us.

Speaking of kidlets, I got these adorable tiny knitted goodies from Cindi Goodwin, who lives in Florida. We both have little girl grandchildren due next month. These hats are so tiny, I think our baby girl won’t wear them for long. Her dad is 6′ 5″ and her Mom is close to 6″!

I couldn’t sleep last night — not sure why. I moved into the guest bedroom so as not to disturb Mr C. I am feeling very sleepy tonight so I am hoping for a nice winter’s nap.

I had such a busy day! I took the easy way out with this 3 x 3!!

We had a great time at STASH today. I enjoyed seeing all the new decorating that Gale has done to her home. It really looks fantastic. We shared show and tell, had a guest hang out with us, planned our spring retreat and ate a fantastic lunch, prepared by Gale.

Stuffed peppers:

And a wonderful salad with gorgonzola and hazelnuts.

When I got home, I was full of vim and vigor so I changed my clothes and headed for the studio and tore off two pieces of 28 inch by 65 inch fabric – one is pfd cotton and the other is unbleached muslin. And. I grabbed some brushes, a bowl of water and several colors of Dynaflow paint. I layered the fabric and spritzed it with water and had at it.

I want an abstract background of colors of nature. I will be screenprinting some images and adding some large photos. I am looking forward to working on this when I get back from SF.

I am all packed and ready to go. Out flight is at 8 am so I have to get up at the crack of dawn, pick up Steph and Mia and off to the airport.

Here is a photo of my boy that I took this afternoon. He looks so sleek and trim with his haircut!

A Day of Running Errands and Appointments

(BREAKING NEWS – The winner of the scarf is Janet Wright. Send me your snail mail and I will get it off to you. Thanks to all of you who chimed in!!)

I feel as if I spent most of the day in and out of the house. I had to get gas in my car, go to Kaiser for my quarterly blood work and deliver a quilt to a friend. Then, home to walk Scooter in the rain. He did not like the rain without his fluffy winter coat. We saw this Rhodie down in the Rhodie Garden. Wow, this is the earliest I have seen one in bloom since we moved here 5+ years ago.

I made a salad for lunch and spent too much time on the computer and then off to get my hair cut, deliver the quilt for real this time (I couldn’t reach her in the morning) and pick up some groceries at Trader Joe’s.

I finally got down to the studio and started cleaning up from the Metamorphosis art work. I had hoped to paint the background fabric for the next quilt I am going to make and it has to be big!! I didn’t make it!! But, I did get my tables clear so that the next time I have a free hour, I can get it done. I did, however, cut the batting so that I can plan the elements and sizes. It is 60 inches high and 24 inches wide.

Today’s 3 x 3 is felted. It is my go to when I am busy. I am going to take some fabrics for hand stitching while I am away. Not sure if I will get to post them until I get home.

Tomorrow is STASH at Gale’s house and then I must get organized to leave town for the week-end so the painting may have to wait until next week.

Coasting

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

I couldn’t quite get myself together for most of the day and so I didn’t accomplish much, except for doing laundry. Then, I got a spurt of energy this afternoon and headed to the studio to do some class homework and to make my daily 3 X 3.

I tried doing some discharge, but this is a commercial red fabric and it did not discharge very much.

I used a sequin waste stencil and plain DeColourant.

.

When I took the heat gun to it, it looked like I was going to get some nice white dots.

But after I washed it, the dots were very subtle.

I have a box of number stamps that I rarely use.

Since this is red #19, I added a 19 with the stamps.

Here is another Twelve gift to share. This one is by Deborah Boschart. She chose the theme chairs and made us each a mini-version of her chair piece. I love all of the little elements that Deborah adds to her work.

We are getting dangerous amounts of rain here in Western Oregon. There are floods in many areas of the Willamette Valley. When we took Scooter for a short walk in the pouring rain, I wore my new thigh high red rubber boots. One puddle I stepped into almost came up to the top of the boots. More rain is due over the next week.

Today, we have a pieced 3 X 3. I love finding scraps of fabric with red.

So, I am exhausted. I pretty much have my studio and office ready for getting down to making larger work than 3 inches square!! Mr C and I cleaned the living level this morning. Two people can get a lot done in less time.

I am having a Portland SAQA meeting here tomorrow —thus, the frenzy of activity. I made some delicious apple oatmeal scones.

I also hung the latest two SAQA auction quilts and rearranged them. They look great in our living room.

Here is another Twelve gift to share with you. This one was made by Terry. I love bees and bee imagery so this is a delight to have in my collection.
