Retreat Day Two

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Just a quick check in from our retreat from reality. Today, we drove into Sisters for lunch and some retail therapy. I found a store with wonderful hand-dyed roving and silk hankies (essential silk roving).

Can’t wait to play with this.

We also went to the famous Stitchin’ Post quilt shop owned by Jean Wells.

I purchased some half price ugly fabrics for quilt  backs. Something I love to do.

I also saw more lovely Aspen groves.

I am inspired to make more Aspen quilts even though Terry tells me they are as cliche as heron quilts.

You can see all of my photos on my Flickr set – Click Here.

Retreating

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Well. look at this! I found Aspens here in Black Butte Ranch. We had a very rainy drive out to central Oregon and encountered some snow over the Santiam Pass.

It is really lovely here. Very woodsy and nicely kept. This is our house for a couple of days.

We settled down and got some hand sewing done this afternoon. The weather cleared up, and we walked to the golf club house for dinner.

The path was very lovely and went by an actual ranch.

Here is the actual Black Butte from outside the restaurant.

Here are a couple of pretty shots from outside our house.

This is Ponderosa pine bark.

By this evening, it was quite nice. Saw some blue sky. Hope tomorrow gives us some sun and no rain.

A Bittersweet Day

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

I am still having fun playing with my new camera. Right now, it is kind of hit or miss. I get some really good photos and some not so good, and I don’t know what I have done differently!! This is a photo of one of the weeping willows on the golf course near us.

Today is bittersweet because it was a really gorgeous day and I enjoyed time with friends, but tonight, I found out that someone I care about is going through a rough time. I wish that I were closer  so I could be of more help. Her e-mail tonight brought me to tears.

This morning, Steph took some head shots of Terry and I for the Twelve X Twelve book. She hasn’t sent them to  me yet. I hope we got some that will work. Reva came by and we talked and shared some work and then went out to lunch. Here is Terry showing Reva her Doug Fir Quilt.

We took Terry out to lunch. I always enjoy time with my good friends and getting out of the house.

Mr C has been busy building me another raised bed. This one is up near the kitchen on the side of the garage and will be home to my herbs and maybe some tomatoes and rhubarb. Next, we have to get some soil delivered.

I took Scooter to the Rhodie Garden for his afternoon walk and, of course, took the new camera. Here are the good ones!

I have been having a little pain in my shoulder in the back. I thought it might be a pinched nerve. Tonight, I reached back into the corner of the kitchen counter to plug something in and ouch, it got really worse. I think I need to call the Dr. tomorrow and find out what is going on. I did manage to paint some silk tonight for the volcano piece. I couldn’t get the right colors with the Colorhue dyes. It is so much easier to get the right color when you are mixing paint.

Tangled Roots

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

After a three days out of the studio, I just had to get in there tonight and play with some scraps. I have some slivers of the fabrics I used in Mother Lode and I got this idea of using them in a 12 X 12 quilt. I think they look like tangle roots. This is not fused or stitched, yet. I think I like that background for this – sort of rich soil looking.

Today was STASH (Some Thursday at Someone’s House). Today it was at Gale’s home. We had a good time chatting and sharing our work and especially hearing all about Terry’s adventures in Cleveland, taping for the Quilting Arts TV show. She prepared a great lunch for us. Always nice to spend a few hours with my friends.

I took these mossy photos in her front yard. I love moss and Portland had a plethora!

Mr C and I are still fighting over which green paint to use. I will keep you posted. We have to make the decision tomorrow.

Ready for Hand Stitching

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

I am liking this now. It is all Mistyfused and ready for hand stitching. I want to start it right away, but I think I will save it for our trip to Hawaii next week.

Speaking of handstitching, Laura Wasilowski is blogging about it. I love the stitching she is doing.

I had a great time at STASH today. It is always fun to sit around and chat with like-minded good friends. We had a little talk, a little show and tell and a great lunch. Terry made sweet potato soup and beer bread and for dessert, Panna Cotta with fruit.

When I got home, Mr C and I decided to run out to the Dr’s office to get H1N1 flu shot which they are now offering to old folks like us.

Then, I ran down to the studio to fix the problems with the circle piece before making dinner. Now, I am watching Project Runway. I think it is going to be a great season.
