Pizza with My Peeps

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Steph’s birthday is on Monday and since I will be down at the Eugene Textile Center up to my elbows in dye, we went out to celebrate tonight. I just want to say that I have the greatest grandchildren. It is such a treat to go out with them. Mia babbles on and on about things and Miles, the quiet one, takes every thing in and analyzes it, very quietly.

We went to Tastebud, which has a wood fired oven.

Here are my peeps:

Mia has a cold and sounded a bit like Katherine Hepburn!!

The pizza was great. The kids had cheese pizza. The adults had woodfired clams and focaccia, wild mushroom, caramelized onions and Oregonzola cheese and sausage, ricotta and mozzarella.

Have I mentioned that pink season is starting in Portland?

My supplies are packed; I’m packed. I am leaving at 7:30 am to get there in time for class. I am really looking forward to 3 days in the dye studio. I will be blogging from Eugene. I get to meet Connie Rose in person and I am staying with Karen Miller — can’t wait to see her studio.

oldwomanandcomputerjoke

Argh! This crud virus won’t go away. I managed to slog my way through much of the computer data stuff for the SDA conference registrations. I finished the online credit card authorizations late today. I still have to update the SDA database. But that is not as time sensitive as getting the money!!

I pulled myself together so that we could go to the theatre tonight. We saw “Portland, the Musical” performed by the Sunnyside School third graders. Mia had several roles — narrator, suffragette and Irish dancer. She did this drawing of a Blue Heron which was on the cover of the program — another budding artist!!

The third graders of the Portland School District study Portland during the year. An incredibly sainted man, who happens to be a teacher’s spouse and a musician, has written this musical that traces important events from the Multnomah Indians to the flood of 1996. He goes to each school and plays the piano and directs the children. I learned a lot about the city tonight. Portland got its name by a flip of a coin. It was named after Portland, ME, it could have been Boston.

So that is all the excitement that I have to report. Tomorrow, I am going to the STASH meeting. We are going to plan our spring retreat  – yippee.

And, thank you so much for all the good thoughts and wishes. I just haven’t had time to answer e-mails or to post on blogs. Hope you all understand. You all rock!!

Living La Vita Lego

Monday, November 24th, 2008

This morning Mr C and I picked up a very excited Miles who had $11 bucks of his own money to spend and headed for the Lego Store.

It was all quite mind boggling. All those Star Wars sets. He looked and scrutinized and looked and read the boxes for about an  hour.

I amused myself taking photos:

My favorite bin of lime green Lego’s:

I finally told him that he had to choose one and if he got it home and didn’t like it, I would bring it back and exchange it.

On the way home, we had a rare sighting of Mt Hood in November.

Here is the happy boy running to share his swag with his mom and sister.

And here is the sweet girl who gets her turn next month:

I got some work done on the Dead Sea piece. I will share that tomorrow.

The Celebrating is Winding Down.

Steph made a delicious dinner last night. We had artichokes for dipping before dinner and beef stew with noodles and salad and bread for dinner. I picked out my own birthday cake at Baker and Spice, a bakery owned by the daughter of our friends, Cheryl and Dave. It was an almond cake with mascarpone frosting. It had 7 candles. Isn’t that a cute cake bearer? The cake was delicious.

I need to rewind back to Friday. I had been to critique group with Terry, June and Mary. When I arrived home, I found a pile of packages. Here is my embarrassment of riches.

Judy, one of the co-conspirators of my birthday blog, sent me one of her fabulous Complexitees. I stood in the kitchen, whipped off the top I was wearing and put this on.This is not a great photo, but you can see it on Judy’s blog, where she says it is for a sale at her church. Ha!! Thanks, Judy!!

In the next package, I found this wonderful little house quilt wall hanging from my doppelganger friend on Long Island, Dee. I just love the colors in this — brown, turquoise and lime green. This is going in my bedroom. Thank you, Dee!!

Last, was a box containing a multitude of delights for a fiber artist. It was from another of the co-conspirators, Jeanne, who does not have a blog. She lives up in Washington State. There was a fabulous, embellished felted bowl with beads and yarns and beautiful buttons. I thought about trying this as a hat because it is so cool!

There were gorgeous hand-dyes.

And vintage Japanese fabrics. These will all be put to good use. Thank you, Jeanne.

On Saturday, Mr C and I drove out to the Erath Vineyards for the Cellar Society tasting and picked up our wines for this quarter. It was a gorgeous drive. We could see Mt. Hood from way out on the Western Side. You can just barely see it, if you click on the photo, it is just left of center.

Here is a closer view. But, it is only half of the Mt. there on the left!! Ha!

OK, now here is a great shot taken on the drive home.

I love taking photos of the elusive mountain.

On Saturday night, Mr C took me out for a nice dinner.

Thank you to everyone for making my birthday special.

The End of Farmer’s Market

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Today was the last Farmer’s Market for the season. Mr C gathered up our knives so that we could have them sharpened while we shopped. The sharpener was very busy because we were not the only ones who wanted to catch them on the last day. What a treat to have nice, sharp knives.

Here are some of the goodies I bought today.

Yummy fingerling potatoes that were steamed in the microwave for dinner.

Tomatoes are plentiful and so delicious. We had some with arugula, walla walla onion, lemon, olive oil and shaved Parmesan. Next year, I hope to be growing my own.

I couldn’t pass up this arrangement of Chinese Lanterns.

I am still quilting the challenge piece. I think I need to do some work with paint or colored pencil to add some definition. I also started work on a simpler piece, just because it has been stuck in the back of my mind and says it must be done.

And, I have been trying to keep up with the craziness of the Presidential Campaign. What a weird day!
