Recovering

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I had a couple of bad days. Sunday, during church, I had a major sinusitis induced vertigo attack. I am sure the warmth and candles and lack of oxygen made it worse. I managed to exit before I passed out and the EMTs were called which has happened more than once during a church service!!

I spent Sunday trying not to move too quickly and took my meds, and I felt better yesterday. My next case of angst involves the 12 X 12 book. I am writing about my chair piece which has two photos I took back in 2005 in Sonoma, CA. The originals are missing. In fact, a search of both of my computers shows photos from late 2005 missing in action. I looked on my external hard-drive back up and nothing is there. I have the photos on my Flickr site but they are low resolution and not ok for printing.

I e-mailed the gracious and talented Gloria Hansen about my problem. She asked me to send her the low res photo and she used a program that she has that ups the resolution. I am hoping they are suitable for the book. I e-mailed them to Lark, and they will let me know. So, I am recovering from these physical and mental problems and now I am enjoying the holidays.

The photo up there is St Nick who made his annual appearance at the cathedral on Sunday. (I recovered enough to get his photo.)

Today, we took Mia and Miles out to lunch and to do a little shopping at the mall. We ate lunch at the Macaroni Grill. Miles had a good time drawing on the paper table topper.

Mia enjoyed the puzzle book.

We had a good time shopping and Grandma was exhausted by the time we got home.

Tonight, Mr C and I had dinner of popcorn and diet Coke at the movie theater, watching Up in the Air, which we loved. This film is iconic for our times in the same way The Graduate was when it was made. George Clooney is wonderful, sweet, vulnerable and gorgeous. What can I say — I love the man.

My interpretation of the building known as Big Pink in downtown Portland.

Because this is the US Bancorp building, I used money and credit cards as details. You can read the story about Big  Pink over on the Twelve X Twelve blog.

ropedyedscarves

Today was Some Thursday at Someones House (STASH), except we went to the Pittock Mansion and out to lunch, instead. I wanted to give my friends scarves as gifts. This morning, I decided to do two more. These are silk chiffon which I wrapped around a thick rope and then squirted with chartreuse, turquoise and black. I rinsed them in water and threw them into the dryer with a towel. While I got dressed, they dried and were ready to wrap.

The Pittock Mansion sits way up on the western hills. Reva and I live over on the east side of Portland, across the Willamette river. We met Beth, Gale and Terry at the mansion because they live over in the western hills. Here is everyone waiting in the cold for the mansion to open.

I was not particularly enamored with the overdone interior decorator holiday decor, but I loved seeing this beautiful building which has fabulous views. Here is Mt Hood from the mansion.

I was enamored with this shower which is the precursor for the modern day multiple shower heads.

Some photos that I took.

We went to the Chart House which sits up on a hillside with a panoramic view of  the Willamette and the East side of Portland and beyond. There is Mt. Hood, again. My house is down there someplace.

It was a great day with friends. I came home and made Mr C a stew of beef, mushrooms, onions and brown rice with a fabulous stout from a brewery in Eugene. It added a wonderful richness to the stew. I made broccoli to go with it.

I finally dragged myself into the studio at 9 pm and watched The Office and 30 Rock while I got some quilting done on the pink piece. I have to finish it tomorrow, but first, we are going to take Scooter out to the boonies to cut down a Christmas tree.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside

exoticlrsvrs

We just drove home from out theology class and the car registered an outside temperature of 26°. It didn’t get above 32° during the day and the wind made it worse. We managed to take Scooter for a short walk. I found these leaves on my walk. They are really beautiful, but I can’t figure out what tree they came from.

I started over on my pink piece and am much happier with the way it is looking. The reveal will be next Saturday — 12/12 — clever, eh?

Here is a sneak peek:

There is no quilting done, yet. Today, I printed many little things on Lutradur that I then painted with gel medium so that they would shine and then I had to cut them all out. Once they are attached to the quilt, I can do the quilting.

The latest Scooter escapades — I bought some home baked goodies at the church Christmas Bazaar, yesterday. We ate a couple of lemon bars. While I was downstairs working, you guessed it, he got the goodies off the kitchen island and devoured them. Today, he chewed the electric cord of my portable hater in half. Good thing it was not plugged in. I have to constantly keep an eye on him! I hope he outgrows this chewing obsession, soon.

I hope you are staying warm and cozy, wherever you are tonight.

Another Starbuck’s Meetup

delterry

Del Thomas is in Portland for a short visit and Terry and I met her at Starbucks. We talked and talked and talked. It was a great visit.

Otherwise, today has been a bust. I realized that I really have to redo my pink piece. It just isn’t conveying what  had in mind.  I don’t think it will take too much work. I will feel better about it.

Tomorrow, M & M have no school so Steph is dropping them off in the afternoon. We are taking them to the OMSI planetarium Holiday Laser show. They will spend the night as mom and dad are going to a party without them. If we have time, we might make some Christmas Cookie ornaments.

And now for something cute:
