Coming Clean in the Studio — Part 3

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

It is Wednesday, so it must be weigh-in day. And I am happy to say that I am down “almost” another pound. I celebrated by going out to buy some new walking shoes. I have just about worn out every pair of walking shoes that I have. They look fine, but I have started getting some foot and hip pain because there is no more shock absorbency. While I was there, I had to get a pair of these:

I discovered that if you go to the mall with Mr C, you can get aerobic steps because you do not stop and look or window shop. I got an extra 12 minutes today!

I also finished most of my clean up in the studio. I have a few piles of supplies to put away. I also want to do a major clean-up in my little kitchen area. I hope to accomplish that tomorrow and then it is back to creating.

Today started out overcast and chilly, but this afternoon and evening it was just a perfect fall day. I took Maggie for a quick walk around the Rhododendron Garden at 5, and I decided it was better than a glass of wine.

But first, here is my latest Cruciform – #3. It is in the mail on its way to the recipient.

I think I mentioned that someone was interested in one of my Lunar Eclipse pieces. She came by today and wrote me a check, and it went home with her.

And Terry really likes this one, so we are trading. I am getting one of her exquisite nests.

So, about the coming clean. You can do anything for 15 minutes. That is my mantra for cleaning. I set a timer for 15 minutes and have at it. So tonight, I got some organizing done. Here is the cutting table clean and ready for the intended purpose.

And here is the sewing machine area. Ahhhh!

Don’t be deceived, there is still plenty to be done. But this much accomplished has already energized me. I must get finished as I have quilts in my head wanting to come out.

Coming Clean in My Studio

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

As promised, I am going to show you the disaster that my studio has become.

Here is my cutting table.

The area next to my sewing machine:

The ironing table:

The surface design table:

Instead of digging in and cleaning up, I put up a folding table in my computer/tv room and watched my taped shows from this past week and worked on this new cruciform which is going to a very special person.

I am looking forward to quilting it tomorrow so that I can get it in the mail.

And I’m feeling so good about my body these days. My pants are falling off, and I am fitting in to clothes that have been languishing in my closet. So I took this photo to commemorate my almost 15 pounds of lost fat.

Tomorrow morning I have to go back to the Japanese Garden to take down the show. Apparently someone called the Garden today and wanted to know if Lunar Eclipse was still there. But she never came in to buy it. I was given her phone number. I’ll call her and maybe we can work out a sale.

Thursday This and That

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

I am so jazzed and elated. I finished the studio clean-up and reorganization today, just in time for a crit meeting with June and Terry tomorrow. I have one little room to work on. It is the little kitchenette. I need to reorganize my dyeing and painting supplies.

Here is one of my design walls. It has work in progress, work rejected from shows and other miscellaneous stuff.

In front of the design wall you can see a glimpse of my iron collection:

I have never used the cute little pink princess iron because I can’t find the cord. The one to the left of that is a non steam iron. It is an old Black and Decker which many people covet.

I have one other job that I want to accomplish. That is to organize my fused scraps by color. I think they will be more useful. Here are two bins of scraps.

Mr C has been working on the yard in the back of the house. He has dug out a pathway which is lined with bender board. It will have gravel added at some point. Today, he transplanted a Japanese maple, that had been in the front yard, to my studio patio. I have some nice plans for this area such as a cutting flower garden and a fountain.

Tonight, Mr C and I treated ourselves to dinner at ClarkLewis. I had a roasted beet salad that was sooo good and pasta made with squid ink and a heavily garlic sauce with grilled shrimp. We shared a delicious chocolate concoction for dessert. I tried two new wines — a chilled pinot noir rose with salad and a new white wine — a Fruili blend from Oregon’s Cameron winery. It was so smooth, not rich like a Chardonnay and not as acerbic as a Sauvignon blanc.

All in all, it has been a very satisfying day, but, of course, the rain is coming back this week-end.

Spicy Beads

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Yesterday, M and M came to spend the night. They started their visit with some chocolate mint Girl Scout cookies:

Later, we went to Stickers in Westmoreland for Asian food. Miles had Yakasoba noodles with pork, Mia had Teriyaki chicken and rice. Mr C and I had a delicious halibut with coconut curry sauce and rice. We started the meal with Chinese scallion cake and dipping sauce and Vietnamese salad spring rolls. It was a very eclectic Asian meal.

Yesterday, I was cleaning the laundry room which is also the entry to our house from the garage. It is a catchall for stuff coming and going. I had an old spice bottle rack stored there that I have not needed for a year. I was about to send it to Good Will when I had a brain storm. Why not use it for bead storage. So I washed it up. And M and M helped me start sorting my beads by color.

We had a few spills, but overall it was a fun activity. I have a good start on the sorting and they felt like they had done something to help me (and they did!)

I still have some empty bottles — which is good because I still have a lot of beads to sort. This will be so much more efficient than little boxes and bags of beads in a box.

This afternoon, Mr C and I attended a concert at the cathedral — Arthur Honegger’s Oratorio —King David. The music was very atonal, which I love. It was nice to still have daylight for taking Maggie on a walk around the neighborhood after the concert.
