Finding Closure

Monday, June 6th, 2011

I am continuing with the sorting and purging. I am happy to say that I found my button collection. They were in the bottom of a plastic tub. I like them better in this quart jar. Looks like something my grandmother would have had.

I also found a selection of buttons still on their cards. I suppose that I once had plans for these.

I also found an assortment of snap and hook and eye closures.

I also found this little treasure — a silver heart charm or bead. It is only about 1/4 inch.

I wasn’t very ambitious today. I find that on days when I go to Pilates in the morning, I get a slower start on other things. I had some SDA work to do. I also spent some time this afternoon taking some stuff to Steph and shopping at Trader Joes. Then there was the hour that I spent on the phone with AT&T, sorting out our account. We switched the account to Mr C’s name so that we could get the GE employee’s discount. However, when I paid the bill, I didn’t switch the account number in my online bill pay so it went to the old account. This is the second time that I have gotten the same customer service rep. She is very nice and very thorough, but I hope we are done meeting on the phone!!

I saw these beautiful red poppies on my walk today.

In the Studio But No Art

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

I emptied all of my paint, resists, gel mediums, etc from the three rolling cart drawers. I then checked each container to see if the contents were still viable. Lots of old dried up paint got thrown in the trash. I then organized the remaining stuff back into the drawers.

My fave – Dynaflow paints.

Other Jacquard paints.

Acrylic fabric paints and other acrylics.

Gel mediums and resists.

Setasilk paints.

Taller containers went into a tub.

I have a few more things to purge and organize, but it will make me more efficient and creative. Got to keep going.

Wasn’t this exciting? I’ll bet you are really glad you stopped by here!

We had a wonderful warm week-end. We reveled in it, not knowing how long it might last. Now, we have thunder, lightening, rain and hail in areas near us.

The Tranquil Time

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

This time between Christmas and New Year’s is always a laid back time in our house. There are left overs to be eaten. No meetings to go to. No deadlines. Mr C and I have been watching lots of movies that we download from Netflix, mainly subtitled foreign films that require my complete attention!!

I have spent some time in my studio and office and am happy to report that it is looking quite spiffy for the start of the new year. I have thrown all my silk fabrics in the colors for the next Twelve x Twelve  theme on to my work table. I must say – they make a glorious sight. I am not sure which ones will make it in to the final piece.

While I was cleaning up, I found my Flip Video camera that I bought on Black Friday. It is so tiny, I am going to have to be careful. I got it charged and set up, but that is as far as I have gotten. I hope to have some fun with it. Expect several goofy Scooter videos.

I am happy to report that Steph and family are all recovered from that crappy virus. She is planning a redo of Mia’s birthday celebration which was canceled due to her illness.

We are due to get some snow flurries tomorrow; it will be a relief from the incessant rain we have been experiencing. On Thursday, I have a conference call to start learning about and get training about administering the new SDA website which is to make its debut around the 15th of January.

So that is the news from tranquil Eastmoreland where we patiently await the new year. We are in better shape than this Santa that we saw on our walk in the neighborhood, yesterday.

If my photos seem different, it is because WordPress is unusually cranky tonight. Not sure what the problem is!

This Could Get Expensive

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

These are a work in progress — the felted tree trunks. I am having lots of fun. I went to the sewing machine shop this morning to look at embellishing machines or to buy needles. After talking to the guy, I decided that if I get one, I want the 7 needle Babylock embellisher so I think I will try to fin one that is used. I bought a ten pack of needles — $30!! I broke two this morning. Argh! I hope that as I get more proficient, I will not be breaking as many.

I was given a bag of natural fleece by one of the guild members.

I have used some of this for shading on the trunks.

Mr C has been painting my studio while I have been needle felting while Scooter keeps an eye on things. The good news is that the painting is almost finished. The bad news is that my studio looks like this.

The center posts still need to be painted. We are not sure if they should be green or the color of the woodwork, which is an off white. I am thrilled with how the studio looks. Way back there on my design wall, you can see that I am starting another aspen piece.

I think I need to do some touch up on the background.

I am happy that I stayed home with Mr C. I have accomplished quite a bit and even got a hair cut this afternoon. Now, we are going out to dinner. Life is good.

New Art Acquisition

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

This is a wood block print by Diana Flack that I bought at the show this past week-end. It is titled, Annie’s Quilt, and is an homage to a Gee’s Bend Quilt. She put a little replica of the original quilt in the corner. Be sure to click the images to see them larger.

You can see the original here.

Yesterday morning, I helped to take down the show and get art work organized for the artists to pick up. I got an attack of vertigo and a horrendous sinus headache and had to come home. I have not accomplished much for two days. Lisa and Clay are coming tomorrow. I need to clean up the house and get some vegan food in the fridge. So, I hope I feel better tomorrow.

Mr C has been painting away down in my studio. We have changed the woodwork from a bronzy brown to this off white. I like it so much better. It makes the whole studio seem lighter and airier.

I started quilting the aspen background fabric and ran into problems. I didn’t get very far and I ripped it out. I think I might have to go on a thread buying trip!
