I Am Not Amused

Thursday, November 1st, 2012

A new month and a new color for my 3 x 3s — yellow orange. I was excited to see that I have lots of fabrics in these colors.

Here is the October collection:

I was hoping to lead off tonight with lots of quilting done on the Rosales Organ quilt. Unfortunately, my Janome Horizon is not doing well today. I don’t know what the problem is, but it started having tension problems and I was getting error messages. Tonight it just up and quit. I have til the end of the month to get the piece quilted, but I was on a roll and I hate having to stop. I got some stitching done on one of the wood panels.

So, I am not a happy camper.

On another note, I can do a little daughter bragging. Lisa has designed some wallpaper for Hygge and West. You can see it here. I love the one with triangles:

Wish me luck with the Janome Dealer tomorrow!!

Still Under Water

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012

I am still under water with my quilting, that is. After getting the maverick fish out of the way, I went back to the kelp piece and finished the quilting tonight. I am right on schedule as the original due date was the end of this week, but PAQA South has pushed the date back to early November so I am really early – yeah!

A couple of details:

Now, I can’t wait to try my new overstitch edge on this.

Dye Fest Results

Sunday, August 5th, 2012

I had mixed results with my dyeing. But, dyeing is never  that bad because you can over-dye, print and discharge. The piece above was done my squirting dye. I was hoping for some watery colors. I like this cobalt blue piece.

I rejuvenated a stained white t-shirt.

These two pieces are really wow! They are silk organza. I poured 2 or 3 different dyes into the baggie.

The chartreuse came out nicely.

I love, love this cheddar color.

Here is a nice golden yellow. I really needed these colors in my stash.

Here is my china red piece, followed by a reddish orange piece.

And these are just a melange of dyes.

This one was all the left over dyes.

That bit of blue/turquoise was a drip, but it is kind of cool.

I found a box big enough for the 9 quilts I have to ship to Art Quilting Studio; it is used for shipping golf bags. We need to cut it down a bit. I have them ready to go except for fixing the box.

I started quilting the Rhythm and Hues piece.

I think the variegated thread adds to the rhythm.

Here is today’s 3 x 3.

I am totally whooped. It has been a busy week-end.

Indigo House

Friday, July 20th, 2012

I am finally getting this house quilt finished. Some of my readers may remember when I cut this house out of a finished quilt.

I wanted to use the house in a quilt for a program I found out about on Jamie Fingal’s blog. The project is The House Quilt Project. Click the link to read about patriotic house quilts made for the walls of rooms for individuals in the Wounded Warrior Battalion and Habitat for Humanity. Each quilt must have an American flag and the size is 12 x 16 inches.

Most of the fabrics in this quilt are indigo dyes by me or prints from Kristine LaFlamme.

I made a background for the quilt. The grass is the only fabric not dyed by me.

I added the sidewalk and some plants and then quilted it. I added the house and used an applique stitch on my Janome to stitch the house and trees to the background. You see the finished quilt up at the top of this post. I still have to finish the edges. I will deliver this to Jamie when I go to Long Beach for the quilt show next week.

Here is today’s 3 x 3.

Now, I am off for a dinner out with Mr C.

Persephone and Pomegranates

Thursday, July 12th, 2012

Today is the reveal for the Twelve by 12/20 mythology challenge. To read the story of the myth, please go to the Twelve blog.

I made this piece with batiks as I have the others in this series. I love working with them and mixing them up in a design. This time, I did all the quilting with black thread. When I first made this, I was not going to put a figure in it. I really do not like the human figure used in quilts. I don’t know why and don’t flame me!!

So, I had an idea of how I could add Persephone to this and not have to worry too much about creating a body. I made this drawing.

I then scanned it and printed it on silk organza. I carefully cut it and fused it to the quilt and then stitched it with black thread and added a pomegranate.

Here are a couple of details:

I have had a busy and productive day, getting ready for the STASH meeting today and finishing my water piece. Here is Wednesday’s 3 x 3.
