SAQA Auction — Last Week

Monday, September 26th, 2011

This is the last week for the SAQA auction. I picked up this piece by Rosemary Claus-Gray last week. She works with sheer fabrics, and I can’t wait to see this in person. I think it will be even better than the photo.

I had a nice week-end filled with time with M & M and catching up on a big database job on the SDA website.

Today, I picked up my Old Growth Forest piece that I want to finish for the Oregon SAQA show. It is due at the end of this week. I wanted to print some photos, but my big Epson printer needed serious help. I have not used it in ages. I have a new computer since I last used it so I had to upgrade all the software and install new printer cartridges. I finally got some good prints tonight. I think I can assemble and get it quilted in the next two days. I have my second cataract surgery on Thursday so I have to get it done by Wednesday.

Hopefully, I will have some photos to post tomorrow.

SAQA Auction Purchase

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

I am so happy that my Klee’s Castle was purchased for the Teri D. Springer Quilt Collection for $350.

I finished attaching Twelve X Twelve quilts to the felt panels today. I had to use safety pins for the last few. Quilt basting guns and I don’t get along very well!!

Tomorrow, Terry and I will package them up and send them off to Houston and then celebrate.

SAQA Benefit Auction

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

Tomorrow the second group of quilts is available for $750 each. The price goes down each day, ending with $75 on Saturday. This is my offering – Klee’s Castles – which is unlike most of my work. I have always done something out of the box for the auction. I have always been honored to have my work purchased early in the bidding process. One year, I had a piece purchased on the first day. It is always nerve wracking for me.

Terri Stegmiller, who is one of the Twelves, has a cute bird that I love. The colors are so soothing.

There are a few luminaries of the fiber world in this group.

Masters Art Quilts Vol. 2

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

I love this book, and I am excited to be able to offer it to one of my blog readers. The collection is curated by Martha Sielman, SAQA executive director. All you have to do is leave a comment before Tuesday, September 6th PST. I will do a random draw and post the winner here on Tuesday. Your book will be sent from Lark, the publisher.

I love looking at all sorts of contemporary art. This book is chock full of beautiful images. I have discovered art quilters previously unknown to me. There are many old favorites, too.

Here are a couple of images to whet your appetite.

This is a work titled, E Tutto Ricomincia by Daniela Dancelli. She is inspired by graffiti.

These pieces are by Reiko Naganuma. These are Summer Days and Summer Sun. She uses bold colors and geometric shapes.

Be sure to leave a comment with a way to get in touch with you.

Come back tomorrow for the Orange Twelve X Twelve reveal!

SAQA Auction Coming Up

Monday, August 15th, 2011

I discovered a WordPress blog app and it seems to be pretty good for me.

The SAQA auction is coming up in September. I thought I would show you my collection of quilts purchased from the auction. I have six. I took the photos in low light in my living room with the iPad so the quality is what it is!! The top piece is by Natalya Aikens, second is by Cathy Kleeman and the bottom is by Diane Wright. They hang in a narrow space on the side of huge windows. Here is the other side.

The top piece is by Sue Dennis, second by Virginia Spiegel and the bottom is by Elizabeth Fram. I do not know how to do links from the iPad – whoops!

Here is the long view of where I have them hanging. I have room for a couple more.

I am all packed and ready to leave on a jet plane in the morning.
