Two new post cards: Red Wine and Pear Still LIfe
Two new post cards: Red Wine and Pear Still LIfe
At the beginning of the year when I decided to challenge myself to make fabric art postcards to send in lieu of thank you and birthday cards, I had no idea that I would have a breast cancer diagnosis and surgery. This turn of events has brought many kind acts my way deserving of special thank yous. I have received flowers and healing gifts. Special meals have been prepared and brought to our home. Having cancer is difficult, but the acts of kindness have been heartwarming and gratefully received.
So here is a new batch of thank you postcards that I made today.
My mastectomy was on Wednesday. I arrived home around 5 pm and immediately took some Vicodin and crashed. Thursday I was up and about, but not of sound mind. Yesterday was reality check. I was not a happy camper. But I decided to get cleaned up and get dressed. I have these camisoles that I wear that have a pocket for a polyester stuffed boob until I get fitted with a prosthetic in 6 weeks or so. They look like shoulder pads and you can remove the stuffing to get the right size. Here is the amount of stuffing that I removed from the one I am wearing. The other fake boob is next to it.
My daughters have a challenge going to see who can come up with the best design for a little fat stuffed bird. Here is Steph’s and here is Lisa’s
Today, I decided to join the challenge and use my extra boob stuffing. My challenge was that I had no felt (I gave it all away to Steph and Lisa) and I have no sturdy wire for the legs (without tearing apart some electronic device). Here is my bird: (I had to tape the feet so it would stand).
Birds of a feather flock together:
OK, I’m exhausted. time for a nap.
My five year old granddaughter, Mia, sent this drawing to me with a note telling me to have a good time tomorrow!! I guess she doesn’t quite get the concept of what a mastectomy is. But isn’t this the greatest quilted outfit. She named her Patch Girl.
Here is a photo of Mia that Lisa took when she was visiting Portland this last week-end. Can you tell that she loves pink?
Here is Milo; he is 3. He is about the sweetest boy you will ever meet.
I’m signing off until probably Thursday. My surgery is scheduled for 11:30 tomorrow morning. I have to show up at 10. It will take a couple of hours and then two hours or so in recovery.
Look it really is a cutting table!!
And this is a sewing table: (notice the lime green sewing machine case!)
We live in such a beautiful place, surrounded by mountains and vineyards. It is my paradise. Every morning we walk the dog in Anandell State Park which surrounds our development. This morning I took my camera so that I can share the beauty of the walk with you.
The entrance to the park across from our home:
I love all the greens of the spring grass, the ferns and the oak tree’s coats of green lichen.
This is the view from the park entrance looking toward our home. Hope you enjoyed the walk.
