Looks Like Spring

We live very close to Reed College. The weather was beautiful and spring-like this weekend. I noticed that the students at Reed had come out of hibernation and interesting things, in addition to the crocusses, sprouting on the lawn adjacent to the street.

There was the geodesic dome:

And then there is this sculpture, titled “Faith-based Missile System.”

The most poignant display, however, is this one.

We stopped and talked to one of the students putting out the flags. They had been working on it for 3-4 hours and still had many to go. I will get another photo when it is completed. It is very sobering to view these flags and reflect on their meaning.

Please, let’s stop the madness!

Yesterday, as we left the Bay Area, this sunrise greeted us.

The ten hour drive was mainly rainy with some sleet and snow thrown in for good measure. I finally got a drive by shot of some California fruit trees.

In Northern California, the trees were graced with a frosting of snow.

After arriving home, I walked in to the kitchen and was elated to find that my Amaryllis had finally bloomed. I put it in water in November!!

This morning, Mr C hung the new mobile in the dining room. Looks pretty cool!

My STASH group met at Reva’s for chit chat and sharing. She made a great lunch — black bean enchiladas and a fabulous plum dessert that involved plums from her own tree, whipped cream and gelatin – yummy! We are reading Twyla Tharp’s book, The Creative Habit. Since we have only done the introductory chapter, there was not much to discuss. We planned our retreat at the beach for the end of April.

Mr C and I were so happy to spend some time in the desert with Mike and Ann, enjoying never-ending sunshine. But we are happy to be home again.
