Getting Things Done

Sunday, November 18th, 2012

I have been putting my life on hold while I deal with the hip problem. So things are piling up and time is marching  on. I have had the Twelve by Twelve Colorplay quilts in my possession since quilt Expo where they lost the bags we had prepared for them and the shipping boxes. I also promised one of the Twelves that I would photograph her quilts. I also wanted to photograph mine.

They need to be heading off Down Under and very soon. So, today, I prepared new bags and labels and did the photography, I really love these quilts every time I look at them I see new and lovely work by my fellow Twelves.

Last week, my Theme quilts arrived home after traveling around the world. Terry has taken on the job of packing them up and sending them back to the other Twelves.

Tomorrow, I am going back to Kaiser for x-rays on my hip. I hope they can figure out what is causing the pain.

We are due for some very stormy weather and high winds. Hope it doesn’t keep me  home bound. I have things to get done!!

Friday?

Friday, November 16th, 2012

Where did this week go? I started the month feeling ahead of the game, but things are getting out of hand very quickly. Turkey day is next week – at least I have the turkey ordered.

This morning I drove out to Clackamas to pick up my new red glasses. I really like them, and I got rave reviews tonight when I saw a bunch of friends. Here is my smiley face.

Tonight we had the opening of our holiday show at Trinity. The crafts are mainly from Palestine. We have friends who were on the Israel trip with us a few years ago. When the husband retired from his medical practice, they started going to Jerusalem for 6 months out of the year where he volunteered in a hospital, working with new doctors. She volunteers with one of the groups that made some of the things we have for sale. I bought this  felted nativity scene which was made by the young people in this group, some of which have Down’s Syndrome.

I love it!!

This afternoon when I was down in the studio, I looked at the organ piece in daylight and decided it was not as bad as I thought. I think the quilting is coming together. Sometimes, we get to close to our work when it is a bit tedious. I just need to get past the tedious part. I will be back at it tomorrow.

Getting Around and Up and Down

I have to admit that using the cane seems to be working. And, I am getting quite speedy and adept at walking the dog and handling the cane, the leash and my iPhone camera.  I am still trying to limit going up and down stairs too often. I am hoping that I can get the hip healed and be back to normal.

I went down to the studio this afternoon to get back to quilting the organ piece. I have to admit that I am not enjoying the kind of quilting that I am doing on this. I am having to do a lot of frog stitching – rip it, rip it. I want to get the base quilted so that I can move on to the embellishments.

Look at this cute knitted doll that I purchased at out Trinity Artisans Fair last week-end. Linda, who knits these, has no pattern. She just freeform knits these adorable critters. I bet you can guess who it is for.

Every December, Trinity Arts has an art or craft show of work to support third world artists. This year, we have items made by Palestinian and Armenian artisans. We have the opening tomorrow night. All of the proceeds go back to the artists. I am looking forward to seeing what we will have. In the meantime, I will be quilting.

You might like to check out the beautiful things that my daughter Stephanie has for sale in the 3191 Apart shop.

Hand-dyed silk and leather leaves.

Plaid silk and wool pinecones – totally hand cut and stitched. Aren’t they gorgeous?

What the Heck?

I saw the physical therapist yesterday. Her assessment is that there really isn’t much wrong with my knees, it is my left hip that is causing the knees to hurt. I have had a problem with that hip since I was in an automobile accident back in 2003. My friend, Pat, and I were driving to PIQF in Santa Clara. We were almost there and BAM, a woman ran a red light and hit my car broadside and it seemed like we spun around and around and around. The Lexus was 2 months old, but it protected us from serious injuries. My door nor the sun roof could be opened so the policeman asked if I could climb out the passenger’s side. Ahem. I am not a small woman. Nothing worked in the car so we could not move the seats back. I was in shock anyway. So I managed to maneuver out from behind the steering wheel and out of the car.

Soon after, I started having pain in my left hip. I was diagnosed with a torn piriformis muscle. I walked with a cane until it was better. However, I have had pain in that hip off an on since then. I have almost become immune to the pain. The pain in my knees was new and I didn’t realize they were connected. Long story short, I have to have the hip x-rayed and in the meantime, I have to walk with a cane, again. Scooter does not like the cane and thinks I am walking to slowly. I am not a happy camper. It is most painful to do stairs, and I am always up and down to my studio so I have tried to manage my day better so that I stay down or up for longer periods of time.

I have been working on Constant Contact e-mails and going to appointments and thus, slacking in the studio. I did get a couple of 3 x 3’s done. I think I am clear to get back to quilting tomorrow.

At least the weather has been sunny, but cool. I think we have one more day to enjoy before the rains return.
