I Am Here

Monday, November 12th, 2012

I am here, attached to my computer all day, working on Constant Contact for 3 different organizations. I have carved out a niche for myself. I had a pile up of e-mails to format and send out and I didn’t get down to the studio until after dinner. I made three 3 x 3’s, and it felt good.

So, that is all I have to show except a photo of my darling Paige playing in the sand!

Here are the other two 3 x 3s.

Another Opening, Another Show

Sunday, November 11th, 2012

This morning, my High Fiber Diet friends, Mary Arnold and Bonnie Bucknam, picked me up for a drive to Tillamook to the Latimer Quilt and Textile Museum for the opening of our Rhythm and Hues show. First, we stopped in downtown Portland for brunch with Nelda Warkentin. She was in town from Maine to meet up with some old friends from Alaska before she and her husband head to Mexico for the winter.

The drive to Tillamook is very rural and woodsy. I always enjoy the scenery.

We had a good turn out of artists from our group and quite a few folks who came to check us out.

Terry’s Nasturium quilt, next to my Prairie Circles quilt, sold today. Congrats to her.

Here are some other shots of the show and artists hanging out.

That is Bonnie Bucknam’s quilt on the stage.

A beautiful felted stole by Maarja Paris.

Walter, the horse, a whimsical soft sculpture by Christina Brown.

A quilt by Carol Heist who does beautiful surface design work.

And that is that. I am tired after a very busy week. I am looking forward to a week with time in the studio. I only have a couple of appointments.

Back Behind the Sewing Machine

Friday, November 9th, 2012

I had SDA work to do on Constant Contact this morning, but got down to the studio this afternoon and spent some time doing the free motion quilting on the pipes in the organ piece. I try to make work that does not require much FMQ. I think I am too impatient to do a very good job. I did some quilting on the pipes to reference their roundness. I hope it is working.

It is nice to have my sewing machine working properly. At least that part is working!!

I have a busy week-end — may or may not check in. We have Trinity Artisan Fair this week-end. I need to check in there. The family is coming for dinner tomorrow night. Sunday, I am going over to Tillamook to attend the reception for our Rhythm and Hues exhibit at the Latimer Quilt and Textile Museum. I should be able to get some good photos there.

Having a Busy Week

Thursday, November 8th, 2012

Nothing like 3 days of meetings and appointments to keep you on your toes. I am so hoping to have a day at home for some studio time tomorrow. I got my Janome back and I am itching to get back to machine quilting the Rosales Organ piece.

We were very excited with the results of the election. I love that so many women won seats in Congress. All of the progressive measures for school and library funding passed in Portland. I think the results of this election and the coalition formed by the Dems bodes well for our future.

Yesterday, I had the local SAQA meeting here  — 26 creative women. Many revealed their challenge pieces. I didn’t get mine done. The challenge was to make a 12 by 12 quilt using SAQA’s new definition of an art quilt: SAQA defines an art quilt as “a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure.”  We decided to use the latter part of the definition. There were some very interesting pieces.

Today, I had STASH at Terry’s. She is having a busy week like mine, so we went out to lunch. I had to rush home and then off in the other direction to have my one year post cataract surgery eye exam. No real change. Since I lost my red glasses last summer, I ordered a new pair. They are red, and I really like them. Can’t wait for them to arrive.

My Janome is working like a dream so I whipped up 3 x 3s with no tension problems.

Do you know that it is Thanksgiving Day in just 2 weeks! Yikes.
