Redemption

I thought if I confessed to all of you that I am a slob in my studio that it would be an incentive to get organized. It worked. The only way I can do mundane clean-up is to play a game with myself. I set the timer for 20 minutes and do as much as I can. When the buzzer goes off, I get to check in on FB, play with the dog or just relax. Then I set the timer again. Pretty soon, my studio was in pretty good shape,

The print table got a new cover. I just need to staple it.

The cutting table can be used for a cutting table once again.

The thread is put back into the thread caddy.

And, my overflow work table next to the sewing machine is cleaned up once again.

I love getting it together. Now, I need to start on the Sweet 12 x 20.

I never thought about a timer and incentives. What a great idea. I’ve been trying to whip the FL place into shape (the to-be wrapped gifts, paper and bows, cards, shipping boxes, etc, added to the general messiness just plain pushed me over the edge into hysteria), so I have dumped out two of my “junk baskets”– the ones where pieces of mail, receipts I need for charitable giving tax filing, recipes I want to hang onto, monthly bank statements, EOBs from Medicare and UHC go until they they grow mold or are filed, and tackled those last night. Threw the contents of three dresser drawers on the bed and tossed old underwear, hosiery, unworn tee shirts. Still have a staggering pile of genealogy stuff to file. So I’m going to try your idea. Can’t hurt. Might help. Also the closets have to be done. Still looks like a cyclone went through and will until all the gifts arrive, have been processed, and shipped on to their destination, but at least I feel like I’ve done something more productive than jumping off the balcony. Nine people coming for Christmas dinner and right now there is not a bare surface to be had, Oh, I forgot the refrigerator. Something has to be done about all the half empty bottles of sauces, etc. in the refrigerator. Arghhhh.

Uh – I hope your clean sweep lasts longer than mine always does. I give it about 3 hours and I’m usually right. Sigh…

  3. oh, well done! I have to do this now and then too. Good idea on the timer.
Some days when I am putting off getting started on work because I have made the job into a chore…like the next thing is a bit hard…I set the timer so I will NOT go back to the kitchen, find washing to do, check email, fill in the blank! It does help, doesn’t it?
