A Little Bit of This – A Little Bit of That

…A little bit of laughs, a little bit of pain. That is what today has been. It was crunch time on the upper floor as we have overnight guests. I had to get real about packing up stuff and getting the house presentable. I packed all the linens except sheets and towels for the guest room. Finished packing up my fused fabrics ?’‚Η¨‚Δω my life line to little creative projects, like postcards.

For lunch, I had a date with my best friends – you know Diane, Pat, Rita and Janet – who I am going to miss so much. We laughed today about my chances of ever finding such a group of friends some place else. We had lunch at Janet’s house. Yummy vegetable lasagna in a cream sauce, salad prepared by Rita and dessert baked by Pat. That would have been enough for me, to just have their company one more time ?’‚Η¨‚Δω to laugh, share our mutual views  about the state of the country and gossip about goings on in the guild. But they gave me these beautiful gifts:

I was able to set this up in the living room so that I could take a photo. It actually goes outside in the ground. It is a funky birdbath. I put one of Lisa’s Mod Birds in it for fun. Oh, and notice the lime green!

And from list mom, Diane, this gorgeous lime green bowl, and Diane ?’‚Η¨‚Δω high praise ?’‚Η¨‚Δω Mr. C loves it.

Many of you know that I founded an art quilt group here in Santa Rosa called the Pointless Sisters. Well, they gave me a gift certificate for a huge amount of money to spend at my favorite quilt store in the Portland area – Fibers in Motion – in Multnomah Village. My daughter, Stephanie, was in cahoots on this and suggested the store.

I came back home and finished spiffing up the place. Steve’s brother, David, and his wife, Kristin, arrived from Winter Park, FL. They are on their way to Yosemite for a mini vacation. We had a wonderful dinner with them. Kristin teaches at Central Florida University and does a lot of publishing. Her next book is a collaborative venture about Bob Ross, who she says is the most famous painter in the world. So we had a lot of fun talking about that. David is a clinical psychologist, who has in the past done a lot of drug and alcohol abuse work, but now works for the Children’s Home Society in Florida. He is one of the nicest and kindest men I have ever known.

Tomorrow, we will celebrate Mark’s 40th birthday. I have invited some of his friends. I am not cooking. We are eating out!!

Yet another tie!! My mom’s parent’s lived in Winter Park (Whispering Waters) until I was in college! As a matter of fact, my buddy Rita and a girl we met via an ad, stayed at their condo on ?? lake on our way to Ft. Lauderdale (where the boys were *supposed* to be) for spring break in 1977. We missed the art fair (drat). I can remember a girl with one arm swimming across the lake at Rollins College. I was SO impressed with her (this was in the 1960’s). I loved going fishing with my grandfather and going from lake to lake. What a lovely town and wonderful memories.

Keep plugging away! I am packing and moving stuff too but, at least I am not under a time constraint.

Gerrie, you’re such a fabulous soul and via your blog sharing it is easy to see why you attract great friends who love you so πŸ™‚

    Dear, Dear Gerrie,
I almost criedwhen talked about your last lunch with your best buds….”we laughed about my chances of ever finding such a group of friends some place else”….so poignant! That is the most difficult part about moving, I think…even to Portland!!
But I must say, if we didn’t already know this, it is confirmed that you have a most excellent taste in quilt shops: Fibers in Motion in Multnomah Village is fabulous!! I had an opportunity to spend a good bit of time there one afternoon last summer, and it was divine! I am green with envy!! Enjoy that gift certificate…and let us enjoy it with you by taking photos of not only the shop, but all of the booty that you run off with!!

  4. Hey, I wonder if your Kristin knows my uncle, Steve Lotz; he was the director of the art department at Central Florida University for many years (I think that’s the one–it’s in Orlando, right?)

How nice it will be to have these lovely gifts in Portland to remind you of your Santa Rosa friends when you miss them πŸ™‚

Gerrie, I am so looking forward to meeting you! Fibers in Motion is my very favorite fabric store and it is not 5 minutes from my house. I can walk there.

I know you can never replace wonderful friends, but I hope I can be a part of introducing you to the fiber art community in Portland.

Love the birdbath, but oooo, I REALLY love the green bowl–your friends must really love you.
