Liz and I are exhausted from out first day of work at Art Quilt Tahoe. I was so jazzed last night when Jane Dunnewold came up to me and said it was so nice to put a face with a name. I looked around and thought who is she talking to and yes, it was me. She is active in Surface Design and new my name from the website.
This morning we tore up our fabric and did six different manipulations on ten fabrics – a combination of silk, cotton and rayon. Here is a look at the dye process:
Here is Jane supervising in her protective garb; she is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is bright, funny, keeps us on task and is very generous.
Out next task was to carve stamps from soap erasers. We are to have 12 ready in the morning:
Then we made stencils by cutting designs from fusible interfacing and then used tulle as a stabilizer and painted the whole thing with latex paint to seal it. I don’t have a photo, but will post some tomorrow. They are currently drying. Here is Jane demonstrating the stencil technique:
Next we got a demonstration of preparing silk screens by taping them with duct tape. They have to cure for 24 hours before using them.
Katie Pasquini-Masopaust is here. this is one of her recent abstract works:
Here is work by Terry Manget who is teaching here. She does some very interesting embellishment.
Here are the results of my dyeing:
Tomorrow we will over dye and just keep layering stuff to make art cloth – FUN!!
Here is a view from the hotel. You can just see the skyline of San Fransisco on the left and the Golden Gate Bride on the right in the background.
Time is changing; we are exhausted; time to crash and hit the ground running in the morning.
You can see San Francisco from Tahoe??? 🙂 Read what you wrote on the first line.
Looks like your having lots of fun. Can’t wait to see the results of your week.
It is so much fun reading about this class! I just can’t get over getting down and dirty at the Claremont Hotel!
Looks like you’re having a grand time! I’ll keep watching for pictures…say hi to Liz for me, too!
Oh I do wish I could be with you as you look as if you are having so much fun and learning a lot. Why don’t we have things like this in the UK!
