I Can’t Stop Smiling

On January, 20, 1993, Maya Angelou spoke these words at the Bill Clinton inauguration, and they mean even more today!!

Here on the pulse of this new day
You may have the grace to look up and out
And into your sister’s eyes, into
Your brother’s face, your country
And say simply
Very simply
With hope
Good morning.

    How appropriate!

Never have I been more proud to be an American, and less proud to be a Californian. It is with incredible irony that we chose to elect our first black president while simultaneously discriminating against homosexuals in their right to marry.

So darn happy about Obama, however!!!

So beautiful. Ms Angelou has such a gift. And so does the world at this moment.

Even from across the pond I’m grinning. It reminds me of the night
an extremely oppressive conservative (the one that had been headed for a long time by Margaret Thatcher) was defeated over here in the UK. You could hear the cheers all along the street and the party atmosphere was wonderful. I suspect, though, that Obama will stand the test of time better than Blair did.

YES, we DID! What a beautiful beginning to the next chapter in this country’s history. Hope this brings healing to all. It was an incredible night!
