Yes, We Did!

shep_large

I am sitting here on my sofa, awaiting the inauguration of Barack Obama. I am filled with hope and really proud to be an American — it has been too long.

As many of you know, I have been an Obama Mama from the beginning. I know some are worried that Obama will be turned into some sort of icon or idol and put on a pedestal. I don’t think he will allow that. His recent speeches show that he wants to tamp down the expectations.

I believe that he is the leader we need now. He constantly reminds us that it is not him — it is us. We are the change that we need. He is here to lead us. He is the no drama Obama, after all.

I have several of the stickers, seen above, from MoveOn.org. These commemorative stickers mark Barack Obama’s historic victory and were designed by groundbreaking artist Shepard Fairey—the same artist who designed the world-famous, iconic “Hope” poster for Obama.

I want to do another photo montage with all of you sharing your hope for our future, So for the first 35 people who send me their snail mail, I will send you a sticker. (USA residents only) All I ask is that you send me a photo with the sticker in it. I will set up a Flickr set with the photos.

I also hope that you will leave a brief message of your feelings on this auspicious day.

Oh, happy day.

I watched the inauguration with deep pride. A couple times I teared up. It was a beautiful, beautiful moment. I hope that the pride he invokes in so many is enough to keep us all committed to resolving many of the crushing problems facing the country.

    Helloooooooooooo!
Wasn’t yesterday just the greatest day for all of the world?!!! I viewed the Inauguration of Barack Hussein Obama in the company of fellow Democrats in this very RED section of the US. It was very exciting: we cried, laughed, stood when asked to stand, and repeated AMEN about a dozen times during President Obama’s speech. Oh, and doesn’t President Obama sound good!!!
The First Family is a beautiful bunch….and didn’t our First Lady look grand at the balls last night? She is a person all her own and would also make a marvelous President!

Warm Hugs from one Mama for Obama to another….and I think you have my snail mail!

Wasn’t it a great day? The day was a bit marred for me because I was at work and outnumbered by fairly surly McCain people. But I followed that streaming video on my computer and had to hold back the tears.

Our new president has such a daunting task ahead of him and he can’t fix everything. But I hope his charisma and the unity he inspires will be a powerful tool to get us back on track in this country.

WOW! What a Day! The feelings of excitement and hope are so fantastic I can hardly stand it. I have the sticker so share with someone else. I wanted to say thank you for speaking out and encouraging others to be their better selves.

What a momentous day! Obama has both the charisma and intelligence to lead this country in a positive direction. Under his leadership, I am hopeful for the future of our country and for our multicultural population, including my bi-racial granddaughter.

Today was a great day. I watched it on the TV at the clinic I work at and it felt very uniting in many ways.

I didn’t realize how depressed and disgusted I’d been for the last eight years until I felt my mood lift the moment Barack took the oath this morning. Finally, we have REAL people — smart, articulate, soulful and well-intentioned — leading this country. I am SO relieved, and so hopeful.

I am blown away at my own emotions. As a child of the 50’s, I have grown to be cynical of politics, politicians, and their words, but today that has changed. For some reason Obama has changed that. I don’t know if it is because I see him as one of us because he was not born with the proverbial silver spoon, or because I am desperate for an intelligent, honest leader. Whatever the reason, I am so proud of the American public for electing what I hope to be an amazing president. Not being a morning person, I struggled with getting up at 6 am, but I am so glad I did for I believe this was one of those defining moments in our history and I am so glad I was able to witness it. Thanks for providing a forum for me to express myself and thank you for bringing this man to the attention of so many. Cheers!

Blogs like yours brought Obama to my attention!

  12. Just a simple message on my blog today —
    Abraham Lincoln said:
“I happen temporarily to occupy this big White House. I am living witness that any one of your children may look to come here as my father’s child has.”

    That is really true today.

I finally found this box tucked way down the page. I would love one of the stickers. Janice Novachcoff 19519 Shrewsbury Detroit MI 48221-1894. I will gladly send you a picture. Back in the 60’s when I was in college I didn’t think I would to live to see this. What a wonderful chance for this country to get together and do what is right for everyone. It will be a slow turn around, there’s so much to fix. I truly beleive that Barack is as honest and decent as he appears. What a wonderful day for this country.

I already have my own sticker from moveon.org, but I’ll send you to a link of mine when I go home tonight.

Today I am so proud of the *people* in my country–proud that they had the courage to hope for better, the courage to try to make things better. I’m happy that we have courage–that instead of living in the fear that’s gripped us since 9/11, we’re ready to open again, to be of service to people in our country and all countries. It’s a great time in which to live.

  15. JulieZS says:

I’m so thrilled to see this finally come to pass. Seems like I’ve been holding my breath for months. We’re very lucky to have someone like Obama at this time, I hope that everyone appreciates that at some point and gets behind and helps push us out of the ditch Bush drove us into.
And getting to take the bush countdown clock off my blog sidebar is sweet!

  16. Kristin L says:

I just want to say “Yea!!!!”

I kept holding my breath wondering if we could really pull this off and vote for hope rather than tangible policies.

Of course, hope comes with policies too and it is my hope that we treat Obama like a man and help him to do his job without cutting down efforts that may not live up to our larger than life expectations. I am sooooo excited to see attitudes in this country change hopefully for the better and to see us in a better position at home and abroad by the end of the next four years. 🙂

    Gerrie,

I don’t have a blog, but I will send you a photo of myself with the sticker. I’m so happy we have a new leader!
