I was quite disappointed with how the Japanese Garden Pavilion looked for our show. They had tables lining the room piled with stuff, some of it was work by the paper artists, some was 3-d stuff by our group, but a lot of it was stuff from their own gift store.
In the past we have had the pavilion for just our show and it really looked like an art show. We did not hang every thing. We saved work to bring out as work was sold and it was very elegant.
Here are some beautiful pillows made by one of our members.
As you can see, a lot of people came out for the reception and to be in the garden on such a beautiful evening.
You could almost see Mt Hood, click on the photo and you can see it amongst the clouds.
This is the pavilion where the show is held.
Here are some other photos from the garden.
And Mr C, chilling, while I schmoozed.
After the reception, we had a delicious dinner at a nice restaurant. We hadn’t been out for dinner together for some time so it was extra special.
What a beautiful and serene setting for a fiber art show. Your kimono art quilts look amazing on the wall. How long will it run?
I agree with you about the setting, and the extra merch being crowded in.
Where did you and Steve have dinner? I was going to suggest getting together afterwards, but realized you wouldn’t be free til after 7, and Jer was already getting antsy. So we zoomed down Burnside and ate at Doug Fir.
I love that Japanese Garden and may be visiting it again when I visit my son for Mother’s Day. Will the show still be up? It looks like a lovely exhibit.
Looks like a great exhibit, Gerrie! I hope it will still be hung in a month? And I like seeing Mr. C hanging while you schmoozing. My DH did the same last night. He came into the gallery, saw the art, went back to the car and read his book on baseball codes then came in later for a glass of wine and some grazing, then back to his reading. It was pretty impressive!!!
Looks like a nice crowd for the Opening Reception. GOOD LUCK with sales!
Maybe, if the place has a suggestion box, you can put in something about the “gift shop” look.
Your work looks wonderful there, Gerrie, and so apropos. BTW, I applied for a job there once — I love that place. Needless to say, I didn’t get it. Or else I’d be living in Portland!
Your work shines…of course, I’m crazy for things Japanese to start with.
In an aside, I have read and reread your ’embarrassed’ comments. I’m at the pivotal point of committing to PAM and now have grave doubts. Think I read them again. I have to say I was very impressed with the outpouring of support for you and your wonderful work.
So it looked more “gift shop” than “fine art show”? Wonder how that will affect sales….your work looks great!
Did your kimonos sell, Gerrie? They look so cool.
Anne: it was too crowded to take photos showing the whole show. I have cropped some photos to show my work.
I’m not sure what the criticism is about……wish I could see!!
