I always wait ’til the last minute to do sleeves and lables when I have quilts in a show. So, I have spent the last few days finishing quilts. A while back I posted what was on my design wall. I am happy to say everything is finished!!
These were all started in a class with Sue Benner at Art Quilt Tahoe. This is Zen Forest; I posted it earlier, but I got a better photo without a reflection. It is layers of silk, silk organza and Japanese textiles embellished with paint and stitching.
This is Zen Moons. I cut the shapes from Japanese textiles. They are fused to dupioni silk.
This is a collage of vintage silk textiles – some are Japanese, some are from a Bob Mackey silk shirt that Sue Benner gave me (some of it is in her quilt at Quilt National 05). It also has some sheer fabrics and some stamped fabrics. I call this Vintage Collage I.
A quilt name Cacaphony. This is what was on the design wall.
After quilting it, I decided to do some creative cutting. I t now looks like this:
Color Fuse-ion started out life looking like this. I used scraps from a class with Melody Johnson.
I then cut it in four pieces and rearranged them. I added the swirls to unify the four blocks and I am loving this!
Now it is time to clean up the studio. I have made a huge mess over the past 3 weeks.
Just want to clarify that the Color Fuse-ion uses my scraps from a class I took with Melody. I don’t have her scraps yet, but I can’t wait!!
The Zen forest is so calming and beautiful. My other favorite is the one from Melody’s class, all energetic and flowing and colorful. Well done!
I love them!! Also, I like you reworked the Melody workshop piece!
Wow, Gerrie! These are wonderful! You have a wonderful eye for the subtle and the bodacious.
I love reading your blog for many reasons, but especially because of our Episcopalian connection.
Gerrie, you are awesome. Love them all. Jen
Wow mom, these are all amazing! I’m sure you would guess that zen forest is my favorite, looks like birch trees! I am pretty taken with vintage collage too. Beautiful stuff.
Gerrie,
Cacaphony now doesn’t look like a pizza!! I LOVE it.
And color fusion… is just yummy.
Wonderful work all.
What wonderful work! I love them all, but especially color fusion. I am so glad I found your blog!
Gerrie, I love these! They are all wonderful!! I especially like Zen Forest and the last two that you cut up and re-did into new shapes.
I am just like you, finishing the rod pocket and label at the last minute.
Let me echo the chorus of huzzahs over all your wonderful FINISHED work.I want to be in the gallery when this is all premiered!
Wow, when you’re firing you’re REALLY firing!! I love all of these – the Melody scraps piece really WORKS cut up; Cacaphony’s edge reshape makes such a huge difference, and I am IN LOVE LOVE LOVE with Zen Forest – wow!!
Fantabulous, Gerrie! I’m so thrilled to see all this great new work. I like that little tiny striped strip for the binding and between the blocks in Color Fusion. And the quilting looks like the perfect compliment. The trees are my fav though.
You’ve been very productive! Yay you! The Zen pieces are my favorite of these…very calming.
Oh my God! I’m lost in admiration. Cacaphony has gained such energy from the way you cut it!
I guess my favourite is the last one – there’s a definite hint to Delauney in this last one. What colors.
I also like the others – those Zen Forest Zen moons are awesome too!
You are a true artist. Congratulations on finishing such stunning quilts!
Her Gerrie, I love what you have done with the Melody scraps and the color fusion. It is so great to see them finished.
Your Zen forest looks so much better than when you were working on it…I wasn’t sure which way it was going to go but this is wonderful.
Doing good!!
